At approximately 02:50 a.m. on Thursday, 17 October 2024, Israeli aircraft allegedly struck a site near the south-eastern entrance to Latakia city, Syria, causing fires and secondary detonations and injuring two civilians.

Syria’s state agency SANA cited a military source placing the time, location and the injury of two civilians, alongside material damage to surrounding private property. Multiple local outlets and social posts from Latakia described intense explosions and fires that continued for some time, with claims that the target was an ammunition/arms warehouse reportedly linked to Hezbollah or allied forces in the Yahudiyeh area behind the Transport Directorate.

Images and videos shared locally showed explosions, flames and heavy smoke in the night skyline; several posts noted shrapnel/shells propelled into nearby streets and damaged civilian homes. Facebook posts by Jasser al seoghoe and Hama contained images showing severe destruction inside civilian houses, with walls partially collapsed and a lot of rubble on the floor. The post by Hama said, “A shell entered a children’s room while they were sleeping in one of Latakia’s neighborhoods. If it weren’t for God’s grace, it would have killed them.

No fatalities were reported by any sourced media outlet at the time of writing.

Where sources identified the perpetrator, all attributed responsibility to the Israeli military.

The incident occurred in the pre-dawn hours (~02:50).
