Airwars assessment
Around 9 PM on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, three civilians, including a child, were reportedly injured as a result of an alleged artillery attack in Termanin, north of Idlib, Syria. The attack was reportedly perpetrated by the Syrian regime and/or the Russian military and/or by the Iranian military. Allegedly, the attack hit a residential neighborhood with missiles, including some incendiary munition.
At 9:00 PM Twitter/X user @HalabTodayTV reported that Syrian regime forces allegedly targeted with missiles the town of Termanin. At 9:17 PM Twitter/X user @mzmgr941 wrote about the injury of a civilian as a result of the attack. Al Jazeera-Syria and the Syrian Civil Defense (“White Helmets”) referred to three civilians being injured, among them a child. SCD linked the reported injury to the fall of the civilians as a result of fear of the sounds of the bombing. The injuries in this incident have not been counted in the civilian harm toll as their injuries were not directly caused by explosive weapons.
White Helmets also reported on Twitter/X that traces of destruction and remnants of explosive missiles, including a missile loaded with incendiary shells (internationally banned) were found on the site, sharing a video where remnants of the used weapons can be seen.
Facebook user Anas Amouri shared a series of pictures where a house was seen with parts of its roof and upper wall missing as well as a fire in the sky which seemed like a rocket launch. Another picture of the same user shows the interiors of a space with dust and debris.
Sources were conflicting on whether the Russian military, Iranian military or the Syrian regime forces were responsible for the attack. Therefore, Airwars has graded both Strike Status and Civilian Harm Status as Contested.
The incident occured at approximately 9:00 pm local time.
