On Sunday evening, the 31st of December, 2023, one civilian man was killed and eight civilians, including three women and two children, were injured by two missile shellings of the neighbourhoods of the city of Idlib allegedly perpetrated by Syrian regime forces and/or the Russian military and/or the Iranian military.
Abu Abdo Al-Malik wrote in his Facebook post that 43-year-old man Mahmoud bin Mohammed Amin died of his injuries inflicted as a result of the bombing of the Al-Dabait neighborhood of Idlib. He shared an image of the late Mahmoud – a middle-aged man with a mustache wearing a blue shirt standing in front of product shelves in a cosmetics store.
According to Syrian Civil Defense, eight civilians were injured in two batches of bombardments on the evening of the 31st of December. Among the eight reported injured were three women and two children, including a woman and a child with light wounds. The SCD also shared a video from evening Idlib where sounds of explosions can be heard, and the voice in the video urges everyone to go home to avoid the bombing that was still happening. The video also featured destroyed shops, burnt cars, and holes in the asphalt.
User @Mzmgr941 posted on Twitter/X names of injured civilians – Maryam Saleh, Samira Bitar, and Anas Ghaly, noting that the bombing of Idlib was focused on civilians.
“Coordination of the Syrian revolution in the city of Adel” Facebook account reported the renewed violent artillery and missile shelling on the Al-Shamata Roundabout area in the city of Idlib. “Creators News” Facebook account shared images showing the aftermath of the strikes – destroyed buildings, burnt cars, and remnants of ammunition.
Sources on social media, such as Yahya Al-Marai, attributed the responsibility for the strike to the Russian and Iranian military and Syrian regime forces, with others, like Twitter/X user mzmgr941, attributed the missile attacks to Iranian militias.
