Airwars assessment

One civilian was reported killed and an unknown number of others were injured in alleged Russian or Syrian regime airstrikes on Ma’arat Harma, Idlib governorate, on August 12th, 2019, according to local sources.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented “the death of a citizen and the injury of several others in a bombing by regime’s warplanes on Ma’arat Harma town in the southern countryside of Idlib.”

Shaam News Network reported: “Activists said that Assad’s air force targeted the town of Ma’arat Harma with several raids, causing destruction to a residential house for a family who refused to leave the town, leading to the death of a man and wounding others, defence teams managed to pull them out from under the rubble.” Syrian Network for Human Rights, among other sources, named the civilian killed as Ahmad Dibo al Rayya.

@baladinetwork tweeted that “a child was martyred and [others were] wounded by bombing of the warplanes on the town of Ma’arat Harma in the southern countryside of Idlib.” However, all other sources reported that the killed victim was an adult male.

@blaas083 wrote: “Ma’arat Harma: Ahmed Dibo Al Rayya was killed as a result of an airstrike by MiG fighters targeting the centre of the town in the southern countryside of Idlib.”

While some sources blamed the Syrian regime for the strikes, others pointed to Russia. A few sources reported both Russia and the Syrian regime as the belligerents of the strike.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
