Airwars assessment
During the afternoon of Thursday 29th February 2024, an artillery bombardment allegedly perpetrated by the Turkish military on the village of Sogankeh, Sherawa district, Syria, injured a female civilian.
Local sources reported that a 19-year-old girl named Amina Hikmat Muhammad from Sogankeh village was seriously injured in the abdomen as a result of the shrapnel from the artillery shells. Amina Hikmat Muhammad was taken to Fafin Hospital to receive medical treatment and was placed in the intensive care room as her condition was critical. Multiple sources posted a photo of Amina, lying on a hospital bed with a bandage around her arm.
ANF reported that “A member of the [Syrian regime] forces also lost his life and another was injured in the bombing that targeted the villages of Sherawa.”
Afrin Human Rights posted on Facebook that more than 30 shells fell in the forest area of Sogankeh village in the Afrin countryside.
A majority of sources identified the belligerent as the Turkish military, while a number additionally attributed the artillery bombardment to the “Syrian National Army” affiliated with Turkey.
