During the evening of Sunday, March 24th, 2024, the villages of Beluniya and Ain Daqna in the Al-Shahba area, north of Aleppo, Syria, were hit by an intense alleged Turkish bombardment with the use of rocket launchers and heavy artillery, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old displaced civilian from Maabatli district, Afrin, Rashid Abdo Hamo (Hemo) and the serious injury of another young man. The victims were reportedly working in agricultural fields at the time of the strike.
According to the “Human Rights Organization Afrin – Syria,” the continuous bombing prevented immediate medical treatment, and after the shelling stopped, the victims were transported to Afrin Hospital in Fafin village, where Rashid later died from his injuries. The organization’s account also shared the image of the late Rashid – a young man pictured wearing pink jacket. Most sources indicated he was 36 years old while Afrin Post News that claimed he was 35 at the time of his death.
The Facebook account of Hawar News shared images from the funeral of Rashid who was buried in Martyrs’ Shrine. The images featured grieving women and a young girl holding the portrait of the victim.
Where sources attributed a belligerent, all sources blamed Turkish forces.
