Airwars assessment
Fourteen identified civilians, including two women and six children, were injured as a result of the multiple air and/or drone strikes, including a double-tap strike, allegedly perpetrated by the Turkish military on the evening of Friday, May 31st, 2024, in the villages of Tamim al-Hanwa and Salamasa in the Tel Hamis countryside of Qamishlo in the Al-Jazeera District of Al-Hasakah governorate, Syria. Most of the injured civilians belonged to the Musa family. Additionally, between three and four Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters were reportedly killed in this series of strikes.
There were multiple strikes in different locations reported by local sources. A subsequent “double-tap strike” was carried out against the ambulance that was trying to evacuate “the martyrs and wounded.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights clarified that the civilian injuries occurred “after an ambulance was targeted while it was on its way with a number of civilians to the location where the military vehicle was targeted.” The military vehicle which was initially struck “[belonged] to a leader in the “self-defense” of the Syrian Democratic Forces, this evening, and resulted in the killing of the leader and two other members, his companion and the car’s driver.” Hurrya Press spoke with a local source who said that the members of the SDF were in a “pick-up” car loaded with ammunition in the village of Al-Hanwa” when the initial strike occurred.
