On January 17, 2025, three children from the same family were reportedly injured in the alleged Turkish artillery shelling on the village of Zenoba, in the northern countryside of Ain Issa, Raqqa governorate of Syria.

The shelling led to the injury of three children, identified as Mahmoud al-Muhammad al-Abd (3 years old), Bushra al-Jassim al-Abd (16 years old), and Ismail al-Jassim al-Abd (14 years old).

Multiple local and regional sources, including SOHR, ANF, ANHA, Ronahi TV, Ein Issa Plus, Alyaum, and Kurd Online, reported that Turkish ground forces shelled residential areas in and around Ain Issa, specifically targeting the villages of Zenoba, Naheeb, Sabaa Jafar, and Ain Issa Camp.

ANF quoted hospital records, reporting that the children were transported to Ain Issa hospital, where medical staff stabilized their conditions following treatment. Ain Issa Plus shared a picture related to the event. The image showed a young boy receiving medical treatment in what appeared to be a basic hospital or clinic setting. The boy, likely a teenager, was seated on a black examination bench against a wall with turquoise-blue window panels. He had a bandage wrapped around his head, indicating a head injury, and was wearing a white T-shirt and green pants. His expression was somber and painful. A man, likely a medical worker, was tending to the boy’s injured wrist or hand, carefully applying gauze or a bandage.

A video shared by ANHA news on Facebook also showed the treatment of the injured children. The three-year-old Mahmoud Muhammad, dressed in a red pullover, was carried by a woman to an examination room where he was examined by a doctor. The woman told the doctor his name and age. Then the video showed the teenager Ismail being treated for a head injury.

While most sources attributed the shelling directly to Turkish forces, some also referenced the involvement of Turkey-backed armed factions, referring to them as “mercenaries.”
