On April 3rd, 2026, authorities in Bahrain stated that four people were injured and several homes were damaged in the Sitra area, south of the capital Manama, after debris fell following the interception of an alleged Iranian drone. However, other local sources attributed the attack and resulting damage to an American Patriot missile.
According to the Bahraini Ministry of Interior, four individuals sustained minor injuries and a number of homes were damaged in Sitra due to shrapnel from a downed drone. The Ministry further reported that the injured were receiving medical attention. Similar information was published by @Khabar News and @Al-Abdal Media Network Bahrain on Facebook.
The Bahraini Ministry of Interior also published photographs showing the Chief of Police – His Excellency Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan – and the Governor of the Capital Governorate – His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Hamoud Al Khalifa – visiting the affected homes in Sitra.
Alternative accounts regarding the cause of the damage and civilian harm were circulated on social media. @Arabi21 reported on Facebook that an American Patriot interceptor missile had struck a residential apartment in the Sitra area of Manama, causing significant damage, along with a video showing buildings with external damage and dust circulating in the air. Similarly, @Yousif Al-Hoori stated on Facebook that an interceptor missile from the American Patriot air defense system fell on Sitra Island, specifically in a residential village area. His post was accompanied by photographs depicting extensive damage to the upper floors of a residential building.
Sky News Arabia published video footage from the site, stating that one of eight Iranian drones targeting Bahrain had caused damage in the area. According to the video’s narration, the roof of a residential building was struck, while surrounding homes and vehicles sustained damage from shrapnel. The report characterized the incident as an Iranian attack against Bahrain and stated that the reported injuries resulted from shrapnel generated during the interception of low-flying drones. The report further asserted that the affected area was civilian in nature and located away from military facilities.
@ALAYAM on FB reported that security teams established precautionary measures by restricting access to the affected locations before conducting field inspections to identify and remove potentially hazardous debris. According to the report, Civil Defense and ambulance teams also visited residents in their homes to verify their safety.
As local sources consistently reported on the civilian harm, the civilian harm of the incident has been graded as “fair.” However, as the sources attributed the civilian harm either to the Iranian military or to US Patriot systems used to intercept the attack, the strike status has been graded as “contested.”
