A man was seriously wounded after being struck by a drone, “likely belonging to the International Coalition forces,” between the towns of Al-Ghubrah and Al-Sayyal in the Al-Boukamal countryside of Syria the evening of 19 June, 2025.
Amir Jumaa al-Moussa was reportedly on a motorcycle at the time of the strike; he was near the Al-Fazza Ice Factory at the time. He was brought to a nearby hospital for medical care. A Facebook post from Asharqia News/Eye of Truth referred to Amir’s injuries as severe.
According to Free Syria News, al-Moussa was believed to have been “an official in the Guardians of Religion organization.” The Guardians of Religion, also known as ‘Huras al-Din’, was Al-Qaeda’s official branch in Syria. The group released a statement in January 2025 announcing that it had self-dissolved. The Alawite Youth Forum repeated this claim but did not include additional information.
Given the contested information about Al-Moussa’s civilian status and the fact that Al-Moussa’s affiliation was referred to in the past-tense, Al-Moussa’s civilian status has been categorised as contested, as it is unclear if he was a member of an active militant group at the time of the strike.
