One young man was killed and his two brothers were arrested during an International (US-led) Coalition and/or Syrian Democratic Forces operation involving gunfire in the village of al-Bajari in the Abu Hamda area of Al-Hassakah, Syria on December 17, 2025.
A post from @DeirEzzore on Twitter/X reported that a young man named Mahmoud Salem al-Nazzal (al-Mashhadani) was killed and his brother arrested during a security operation by the International Coalition with the assistance of the SDF in the village of Al-Bajari. According to @DeirEzzore, two of Mahmoud’s brothers had been killed by the Coalition the year before. The Syrian Network for Human Rights also reported on Mahmoud’s death and added that two others had been arrested “on charges of belonging to the organization”.
Euphrates Post via Facebook named the two men arrested as Muhammad and Nabil, Mahmoud’s brothers, and provided details that following the clash, the SDF seized Mahmoud’s body and refused to hand it over to his family. The post included an image of Mahmoud from before his death, pictured wearing a head scarf and tan jacket, and after his death, covered in blood. However, Hasakah Observatory and other sources reported that the SDF had handed over Mahmoud’s body. Source @SarwtyA61476 specified that “the brothers do not belong to any armed faction” and Hasakah Observatory added that the SDF had stolen money and gold from the family home and several other families in the area.
A video published by Abu Musab Al-Mashhadani Al-Hashemi shows the covered body of Mahmoud being transported by loved ones for burial. Another video from ﭑﭑﺣﹻ۫ۛڕﭑر ﭑﭑﻟﹻ۫ۛﹻۧشـﹻ۫ۛڕقية،ٰۦٰ۪ﮧۛ showed the uncovered body covered in bloody clothing.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the International Coalition and/or the SDF. Multiple sources refer to Mahmoud as having been killed by gunfire.
