On Monday, 2 March 2026, missile debris fell within the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, Kuwait’s largest oil refinery, in Al-Ahmadi port, resulting in minor injuries to at least two workers.
On the day of the strike, regional and international news outlets, including Shehab Agency, Anadolu Agency, Asharq News and Al Jazeera, reported that “two workers were injured when shrapnel/missile fragments fell on the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery.” Providing further evidence of the belligerent responsible, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that “two workers were injured after debris fell … during Iranian missile and drone attacks.”
On March 3, the New York Times included a map showing “where ships and energy facilities have been damaged” with the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery listed as one of the sites affected.
Sarmad Network quoted Ghanem Al-Otaibi, spokesperson for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company and the Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company, who claimed that the incident was handled immediately in accordance with established safety and security procedures. According to Al-Otaibi, the injured workers were transferred to Al-Adan Hospital for medical treatment and were reported to be in stable condition and under medical observation. He further claimed that refinery operations and production were not disrupted and that no material damage occurred, with the refinery continuing to operate at full capacity.
A Facebook post shared by Akhbarhayat stated that explosions and warning sirens were heard across parts of the city for the third consecutive day, reportedly following Iranian retaliatory strikes against Gulf states in response to US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
It is unclear who was responsible for the “missile debris” which resulted in civilian injuries. While the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) mentioned that the injuries occurred “during Iranian missile and drone attacks,” none specified that Iranian missiles or an interception occurred in this specific incident. Therefore, this incident is graded as “contested” and having an “unknown” belligerent.
