Gaza, October 11, 2023 (WAFA) – Journalist Mohammed Fayez Abu Matar was killed today, Wednesday, as a result of the ongoing Israeli bombardment of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Our correspondent reported that Abu Matar was killed while covering the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for five days. He worked as a freelance photographer with international news agencies and was a resident of Rafah. With the death of Abu Matar, the number of journalists killed has risen to eight, following the deaths of Saeed al-Taweel, Mohammed Subh, Hisham al-Nawajha, Ibrahim Lafi, Mohammed Jarghoun, Mohammed al-Salehi, and Asaad Shamlakh. ___ H.S./S.K.

By Mahmoud Hashem: The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip has resulted in heavy losses among journalists since Hamas launched its unprecedented “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation on October 7, 2023, and the Israeli government declared war on the besieged territory. According to a statement issued on Friday, October 13, 2023, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) investigated all reports concerning journalists killed, injured, detained, or missing during the conflict. In the first six days of fighting, at least 10 journalists were killed, two went missing, and two were injured. During the same period, the conflict claimed the lives of at least 2,700 people on both sides and left several thousand wounded. The CPJ explained that journalists in Gaza face particularly high risks while attempting to cover the war amidst frequent Israeli airstrikes, communication disruptions, and widespread power outages. The deaths of nine Palestinian journalists were confirmed as of October 12; one Israeli journalist was confirmed killed and another went missing during the first six days of the conflict. Sherif Mansour, Middle East and North Africa program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists, said the committee emphasizes that journalists are civilians performing vital work during times of crisis and should not be targeted by warring parties. “Millions around the world rely on reporters in the region to provide accurate information about the conflict.” Journalists must be respected and protected, just like all civilians. The published list includes names based on information obtained from the Committee to Protect Journalists' sources in the region and from media reports. It is updated regularly regarding journalists who have been reported killed, missing, injured, or detained: On October 12, Shihab Radio's Voice of the Prisoners, along with his wife and three children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted their home in Jabalia, northern Gaza. On October 11, freelance photojournalist Mohammed Fayez Abu Matar was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Rafah, southern Gaza. On October 9, Saeed Al-Taweel, editor-in-chief of the Fifth News website, was killed when Israeli warplanes bombed an area housing several media outlets in the Rimal neighborhood of western Gaza. The strike specifically targeted the Heji building. Mohammed Subh, a photographer for Khabar News Agency, was also killed in the airstrike on the Rimal district. Hisham Al-Nawajha, a journalist with Khabar News Agency, was also reportedly killed in the same airstrike. The same bombing that killed Tawil and Subh. On October 8, Asaad Shamlakh, a freelance journalist, was killed along with nine members of his family in an Israeli airstrike on their home in Sheikh Ajlin, a neighborhood in the southern Gaza Strip. On October 7, Yaniv Zohar, an Israeli photographer working for the Hebrew-language daily Israel Hayom, was killed during a Hamas attack on Kibbutz Nahal Oz in southern Israel. Mohammed al-Salhi, a photojournalist with the Fourth Estate news agency, was shot and killed near a Palestinian refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. Mohammed Jarghoun, a journalist with Smart Media, was shot while covering the conflict in an area east of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Center for Media Freedom (MADA) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Ibrahim Mohammed Lafi, a photographer for Ain Media, was killed after being shot at the Erez Crossing in the Gaza Strip, according to MADA and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Joint Chiefs of Staff. Detained MADA Center reported the disappearance of Palestinian cameraman Nidal al-Wahidi, who works for Al-Najah TV. Later, al-Wahidi's family informed the media that he was being held by the Israeli army. Israeli police assaulted Firas Lotfi, a Sky News Arabia correspondent, along with other Sky News journalists in the southern city of Ashkelon, according to members of the television crew. Lotfi said that Israeli police pointed their guns at his head and forced him to remove his... They took his clothes, confiscated the team's phones, and forced them to leave the area under police escort.

كتب- محمود هاشم:  أدى العدوان الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة إلى خسائر فادحة في صفوف الصحفيين، منذ أن شنت حماس عملية “طوفان الأقصى” غير المسبوقة في 7 أكتوبر 2023، وأعلنت حكومة الاحتلال الحرب على القطاع المحاصر.  وبحسب بيان لها، اليوم الجمعة 13 أكتوبر 2023، حققت لجنة حماية الصحفيين في جميع التقارير المتعلقة بالصحفيين الذين قتلوا أو أصيبوا أو احتجزوا أو فقدوا خلال النزاع. وفي الأيام الستة الأولى من القتال، حيث قُتل ما لا يقل عن 10 صحفيين، وفقد اثنان وجُرح اثنان. وفي الفترة نفسها، أودى الصراع بحياة ما لا يقل عن 2700 شخص من الجانبين وأدى إلى سقوط عدة آلاف من الجرحى.  وأوضحت اللجنة أن الصحفيين في غزة يواجهون مخاطر كبيرة بشكل خاص أثناء محاولتهم تغطية الحرب وسط الغارات الجوية الإسرائيلية المتكررة، وانقطاع الاتصالات وانقطاع التيار الكهربائي على نطاق واسع، حيث تم التأكد من مقتل 9 صحفيين فلسطينيين حتى 12 أكتوبر؛ تأكد مقتل صحفي إسرائيلي وفقد آخر خلال الأيام الستة الأولى من الصراع.  وقال شريف منصور، منسق برنامج الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا في لجنة حماية الصحفيين، إن اللجنة تشدد على أن الصحفيين هم مدنيون يقومون بعمل مهم خلال أوقات الأزمات ويجب ألا يتم استهدافهم من قبل الأطراف المتحاربة”. “يعتمد الملايين في جميع أنحاء العالم على المراسلين في المنطقة لتقديم معلومات دقيقة حول الصراع. ويجب احترام الصحفيين وحمايتهم، مثلهم مثل جميع المدنيين”.  وتتضمن القائمة المنشورة أسماء استنادا إلى معلومات تم الحصول عليها من مصادر لجنة حماية الصحفيين في المنطقة ومن تقارير وسائل الإعلام. ويتم تحديثه على أساس منتظم، بشأن الصحفيين الذين تم الإبلاغ عن مقتلهم أو فقدهم أو إصابتهم أو اعتقالهم:  في 12 أكتوبر، استشهد الصحفي في إذاعة صوت الأسرى شهاب وزوجته وأطفاله الثلاثة، في غارة جوية إسرائيلية استهدفت منزله في بلدة جباليا شمال قطاع غزة.  وفي 11 أكتوبر، استشهد محمد فايز أبو مطر، وهو مصور صحفي مستقل، خلال غارة جوية إسرائيلية على مدينة رفح، جنوب قطاع غزة.  وفي 9 أكتوبر، استشهد سعيد الطويل رئيس تحرير موقع الخامسة الإخبارية، في قصف طائرات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي منطقة تضم عدداً من وسائل الإعلام في حي الرمال غرب غزة، واستهدفت على وجه التحديد مبنى هيجي، واستشهد محمد صبح مصور وكالة “خبر” للأنباء، في الغارة الجوية على مديرية الرمال  كما أفادت الأنباء بأن هشام النواجحة، الصحفي في وكالة “خبر” للأنباء، استشهد في التفجير نفسه الذي أودى بحياة الطويل وصبح.  وفي 8 أكتوبر، استشهد أسعد شملخ، وهو صحفي مستقل، مع 9 من أفراد عائلته في غارة جوية إسرائيلية على منزلهم في الشيخ عجلين، وهو حي في جنوب قطاع غزة.  أما في 7 أكتوبر، قتل يانيف زوهار، وهو مصور إسرائيلي يعمل في صحيفة “إسرائيل هيوم” اليومية الناطقة بالعبرية، خلال هجوم شنته حماس على مستوطنة كيبوتس ناحال عوز في جنوب الأراضي المحتلة.   كما استشهد محمد الصالحي، وهو مصور صحفي يعمل لدى وكالة أنباء السلطة الرابعة، بالرصاص بالقرب من مخيم للاجئين الفلسطينيين في وسط قطاع غزة.  وأصيب محمد جرغون، وهو صحفي في شركة “سمارت ميديا”، بالرصاص أثناء قيامه بتغطية الصراع في منطقة تقع شرق مدينة رفح جنوب قطاع غزة، وفقا لمجموعة مدى الفلسطينية لحرية الصحافة وهيئة الأركان المشتركة .  كما استشهد إبراهيم محمد لافي، مصور وكالة “عين ميديا”، بعد إطلاق النار عليه عند معبر إيرز في قطاع غزة، بحسب مركز مدى وهيئة الخدمات المشتركة.  محتجز  وأفاد مركز مدى باختفاء المصور الفلسطيني في قناة النجاح، نضال الوحيدي، وفي وقت لاحق، أبلغت عائلة الوحيدي وسائل الإعلام أنه معتقل لدى جيش الاحتلال.  كما أفاد مركز مدى باختفاء المصور الفلسطيني في وكالة “عين ميديا” هثم عبدالواحد، حيث انقطع الاتصال به خلال تغطيته الأحداث قرب حاجز إيرز.  وتم الإبلاغ عن اختفاء مصور موقع “واي نت” الإسرائيلي، الذي قُتلت زوجته، وتخشى عائلته من احتجازه كرهينة مع ابنته البالغة من العمر 3 سنوات. وأكدت لجنة حماية الصحفيين أنه كان يعمل في اليوم الذي تعرضت فيه عائلته للهجوم.  وأصيب مراسل قناة الغد، إبراهيم كنعان، بشظايا قذيفة مدفعية في مدينة خان يونس جنوب قطاع غزة، بحسب مركز مدى وهيئة الأركان المشتركة.  واعتدت شرطة الاحتلال على فراس لطفي، مراسل قناة سكاي نيوز عربية، إلى جانب صحفيين آخرين في سكاي نيوز في مدينة عسقلان الجنوبية، وفقا لأعضاء طاقم التلفزيون. وقال لطفي إن الشرطة الإسرائيلية صوبت بنادقها نحو رأسه، وأجبرته على خلع ملابسه، وصادرت هواتف الفريق، وأجبرتهم على مغادرة المنطقة تحت حراسة الشرطة.

GAZA, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 (WAFA) - Journalist Mohammad Fayez Abu Matar was killed today in an Israeli bombing of Rafah Governorate, south of the Gaza Strip, according to WAFA correspondent. He said that Abu Matar, a freelance photographer working with international agencies, was covering the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip when he was killed in the bombings on Rafah. With the killing of Abu Matar, the number of journalists killed in the Israeli aggression rises to eight. They included Saeed al-Taweel, Mohammad Sobh, Hisham al-Nawajha, Ibrahim Lafi, Mohammad Jarghoun, Mohammad al-Salhi, and Asaad Shamlikh. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned in a statement the killing of journalists in the Gaza Strip, calling on the International Federation of Journalists, the Union of Arab Journalists, and all international institutions affiliated with the United Nations and international human rights institutions “to take action to protect Palestinian journalists and stop the murders committed in a systematic manner and by an official decision of the Israeli occupation government against Palestinian journalists.” M.K.

The journalist Mohammad Fayez Yousef Abu Matar, 28, was martyred Wednesday as a result of an Israeli Occupation airstrike targeting homes in Rafah, according to Roya's correspondent. This brings the total number of journalists martyred in Gaza since the beginning of 'Operation Aqsa Typhoon' to nine. The journalists were identified as Salam Mema, Ibrahim Lafi, Mohammad Jarghoun, Mohammad Al-Salehi, Asaad Shamlakh, Saeed Al-Taweel, Mohammad Rezq Sobh, and Hisham Al-Nawajha.
