During the evening of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a 22-year-old man named Abdul Rahman Muhammad Mardi Qanbour was killed and seven others were wounded as a result of alleged Israeli drone strikes or airstrikes on agricultural land near the Sitt (Al-Sit) Amira Camp which houses displaced people in the central Gaza Strip
The earliest reports found regarding this incident were posted on March 25, 2026, from a Facebook user and Palestinian Activist ‘Hamza Hamza Al-Masri’ who reported an “airstrike by reconnaissance aircraft south of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip…The strike targeted Al-Baraka Street near the Al-Sit Amira camp.”
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights posted on Facebook, stating: “At approximately 5:10 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, an Israeli warplane fired two missiles at farmland near the Al-Sit Amira camp on Al-Baraka Street in Deir al-Balah, killing 22-year-old Abdul Rahman Muhammad Mardi Qanbour and injuring several others.” The source reported that: “The attack also damaged tents belonging to displaced people in the area, displacing a number of families, particularly given the harsh weather conditions that prevailed in the region that day.” Three images accompanied the post. Two of the images showed people, including both children and adults, in visible distress and anguish. One of the men in the pictures appears to have blood smeared across his face, and it is clear that he is crying – it is unclear if he is injured or lost a loved one. The other images show someone being carried off on a stretcher by four people, three of whom are wearing high-vis orange vests. The person lying on the stretcher is covered by a blanket, with only their shoes visible.
On the day of the strike, Facebook user ‘Hamla Kaddour’ identified Abdul Rahman as one of the victims, announcing “Abdul Rahman Qanbour was killed by an Israeli target near the Al-Sit Amira Camp, south of the Deir al-Balah city in the central Gaza Strip.” Attached to this post was a photo of a young man wearing a gray hoodie underneath a black jacket; the man had a trimmed moustache and beard. This same image was also used by Twitter/X user ‘Qadeyah1’ who posted the image and wrote that “Abdul Rahman Qanbour was killed by an Israeli target near the Al-Sit Amira camp, south of Deir al-Balah city in the central Gaza Strip.”
@quds news agency posted on Twitter/X that “a Palestinian was killed, and several others were wounded at the scene. Photos document the moment Israeli warplanes bombed the “Al-Sit Amira” camp south of Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip.” Attached to this post were four images showing rows of white tents engulfed in flames and smoke clouds as people flee from the area. A news organisation known as ‘The Lens’ posted on Facebook to their over one million followers about “The First moments of the [Israeli] fire bombing of the ‘Six Amira’ camp for displaced people south of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.” Attached to this post was a video of a large plume of smoke filling the streets in the background as people flee the area.
Al-Sharq News Palestine posted on Facebook, stating: “Photos document the moment Israeli warplanes bombed the ‘Al-Sit Amira” camp south of Deir al-Balah, in the Central Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of one young man and injuries to seven others.” Attached to this post were seven images: two images showing the white tents of the camp engulfed in flames, four images of plumes of dark grey smoke overtaking the camp, and the last image capturing what appears to be a child’s backpack left behind in the remnants of the camp tents.
Facebook user ‘Dr. Hekmat Alian Almasri’ described this day in great detail, outlining that she had been in the camp to attend a wedding. She posted her recounting of the event to her sixteen thousand Facebook followers, describing how “we arrived at the Sitt Amira camp, a place overflowing with tents of displaced people from all over Gaza…The place was simple, almost painfully so: modest tents, muddy ground, plastic chairs, and a small platform awaiting a bride and groom…The place was filled with applause and ululations, with faces weary from sorrows yet determined to smile. But in Gaza…the scenes never last. Suddenly, everything stopped. A disturbing voice blared from the loudspeakers: ‘Get out quickly…the place is going to be bombed!’ Everyone ran, as if Judgement Day had suddenly arrived…The street was teeming with people, everyone running. The tents were torn apart, shrapnel flew everywhere, a young man was killed, and others wounded. Even joy wasn’t spared.”
Where sources have identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the incident to the Israeli forces.
