Airwars Assessment
On the morning of Tuesday, March 2, 2026, a number of civilians were reportedly injured by falling debris in the village of Al-Fatih in the Ain Sharqiyah area of the Jableh countryside, in the Latakia Governorate in Syria. The names and conditions of those affected are currently unavailable – this assessment will be updated if additional information emerges.
Around 8:13 a.m. on the morning of March 2, Al Jazeera reported “injuries […] in the village of Al-Fatih in the Latakia countryside after shrapnel from an intercepted Iranian missile fell.” S.N.N | Sham Network reported that “a rocket projectile fell in Al-Fatih village in the Jableh countryside, originating from the ongoing regional tensions. It landed between two houses near the Rotana area. The incident resulted in several minor injuries among civilians. The projectile also caused material damage to a number of houses near the impact site.” According to the ‘Free Latakia’ Facebook account, the “material damage [was] represented by the shattering of windows in some neighbouring houses.”
Around 10:00 a.m., Alikhbaria Syria (Syrian News) shared a statement on Facebook by Syria’s Civil Defense organisation, announcing that “our teams in Latakia Governorate responded today, Monday, March 2nd, to a site where war ordinances fell in the village of Al-Fatih in the Ain Sharqiyah area of the Jableh countryside, as a result of the ongoing regional events. Upon arrival, the teams immediately placed warning tape and secured the area until specialised teams arrived to complete the necessary technical procedures to ensure the safety of civilians and the surrounding area.” The statement also urged citizens to remain cautious in case of further explosions, falling debris, or encounters with suspicious objects. The post was accompanied by photos of a “White Helmet” civil defense member securing a perimeter of red and white tape around an olive grove, with a grey unexploded ordnance in the background. A Facebook account titled ‘People of Latakia platform’ shared the same information, along with a series of photos showing the ordnance lying under an olive tree. The warhead appears to be about the size of a bathtub.
Around the same time, ‘Rural Jableh News Network’ posted “photos of the damage caused by the missile” on Facebook, showing a large hole in a bedroom wall and a damaged utility pole. The account indicated that the incident took place in “Jableh countryside, Ain al-Sharqiyah.” According to Latakia News Network, “following the interception of Iranian missiles by the entity, a missile projectile fell a short while ago between two houses in the village of Al-Fatih in the countryside of the city of Jableh…Initial reports indicate that there are unfortunately human injuries and other material damage to the windows of some houses in the village.” The post included previously-mentioned photos of the ordnance in the olive grove and of the damaged bedroom. Syrian Observatory shared additional photos of “the remains of a missile [that] fell on a residential house in the village of Al-Fatih in Ain Sharqiyah in the countryside of Jableh,” showing photos from the olive grove and the residential property that were affected. Multiple sources, including Kinda Asmaele and Hasakah today posted that the incident took place “near the Rotana restaurant.”
According to Facebook account ‘Real or fake backup’ “a missile projectile, specifically the warhead of a Tomahawk missile, fell in the village of Al-Fatih, causing injuries and material damage to homes. This occurred after it was intercepted by an Israeli, American, or British fighter jet. The missile was headed towards British bases in Cyprus.” This has not been corroborated by other sources.
Where sources identified the belligerent, they consistently attributed the strike to the Iranian military. However, as the interception missile was likely of Israeli and/or American origin, according to the sources. Hence, Airwars has graded the strike status of the incident as “likely” and civilian harm of the incident as “contested.”
