Airwars Assessment
On the afternoon of June 16, 2026, two family members were killed and two others were injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Chitgar, Tehran. At approximately 3:30 p.m., 41-year-old Zahra Nazari and her 34-year-old brother, Mohammad Mehdi Nazari, were killed. Their sister, Zeinab, was severely wounded, and their mother, Fatemeh Shekari, incurred a head injury as well.
According to various sources, including news outlet JahanBanou and Instagram accounts @razelaleha and @killedbyisrael2025, the siblings and other relatives had traveled to Tehran to accompany their father who was undergoing a heart procedure in the capital. On the afternoon of June 16, a series of explosions hit the residential building where they were staying, and Zahra and Mohammad were killed while the family was attempting to evacuate. Zeinab was seriously injured while trying to escape the building as well. A report by sarasari.khorasanonlin said that “the mother of the martyrs of Nazari…has also been hurt in this incident; but despite this, she is patient.”
In an interview with JahanBanou, Fatemeh Shekari, the mother of Zahra, Mohammad and Zeinab, explained that her children “had a deep bond with each other and loved each other immensely.” Speaking with Khorasan Online, she described the airstrike in painful detail, saying: “It was 3:30 in the afternoon. We were in the building. Four or five explosions occurred in that area. It was very loud. Everyone in the building left.” At that point, her son, “Mohammad Mehdi, said, “Go, mom, we will come after you”…[as] he wanted to accompany his sisters. When we reached the exit, the explosion occurred. The blast wave threw all of us, who were in a large crowd with other residents, and at that moment my two daughters and son were still upstairs…My head was broken, we didn’t know where we were, darkness and gloom had taken over everywhere. It seems that…they were thrown down from the window of the building by the explosion. They pulled us out of the rubble, but Mohammad Mehdi and Zahra were under the rubble.”
According to Instagram account @killedbyisrael2025, Mohammad was “a young student from Mashhad and the eldest son of the family. He was responsible for most of the household chores, especially the treatment of his father’s heart disease.” The account also shared smiling photos of Mohammad along with the heartbreaking news that “he was supposed to get married after returning from this trip.”
The same account shared a photo of Zahra Nazari in honor of the “young Quran reciter and teacher from Mashhad” and explained that she “and her older brother Mohammad Mehdi did not emerge alive from the rubble, while their other sister, Zeinab, who had been married for less than two days, was seriously injured by the blast wave.”
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.
