Last Updated: May 11, 2026

On the afternoon of June 16, 2026, two family members were killed and two others were injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Chitgar, Tehran. At approximately 3:30 p.m., 41-year-old Zahra Nazari and her 34-year-old brother, Mohammad Mehdi Nazari, were killed. Their sister, Zeinab, was severely wounded, and their mother, Fatemeh Shekari, incurred a head injury as well.

According to various sources, including news outlet JahanBanou and Instagram accounts @razelaleha and @killedbyisrael2025, the siblings and other relatives had traveled to Tehran to accompany their father who was undergoing a heart procedure in the capital. On the afternoon of June 16, a series of explosions hit the residential building where they were staying, and Zahra and Mohammad were killed while the family was attempting to evacuate. Zeinab was seriously injured while trying to escape the building as well. A report by sarasari.khorasanonlin said that “the mother of the martyrs of Nazari…has also been hurt in this incident; but despite this, she is patient.”

In an interview with JahanBanou, Fatemeh Shekari, the mother of Zahra, Mohammad and Zeinab, explained that her children “had a deep bond with each other and loved each other immensely.” Speaking with Khorasan Online, she described the airstrike in painful detail, saying: “It was 3:30 in the afternoon. We were in the building. Four or five explosions occurred in that area. It was very loud. Everyone in the building left.” At that point, her son, “Mohammad Mehdi, said, “Go, mom, we will come after you”…[as] he wanted to accompany his sisters. When we reached the exit, the explosion occurred. The blast wave threw all of us, who were in a large crowd with other residents, and at that moment my two daughters and son were still upstairs…My head was broken, we didn’t know where we were, darkness and gloom had taken over everywhere. It seems that…they were thrown down from the window of the building by the explosion. They pulled us out of the rubble, but Mohammad Mehdi and Zahra were under the rubble.”

According to Instagram account @killedbyisrael2025, Mohammad was “a young student from Mashhad and the eldest son of the family. He was responsible for most of the household chores, especially the treatment of his father’s heart disease.” The account also shared smiling photos of Mohammad along with the heartbreaking news that “he was supposed to get married after returning from this trip.”

The same account shared a photo of Zahra Nazari in honor of the “young Quran reciter and teacher from Mashhad” and explained that she “and her older brother Mohammad Mehdi did not emerge alive from the rubble, while their other sister, Zeinab, who had been married for less than two days, was seriously injured by the blast wave.”

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.

The Pain of Children's Martyrdom, a Test for Patient Mothers Fatemeh Shekari, the mother of Nazari martyrs, speaks in her firm and soothing voice about the pain of separation: I have four children, and we six in the family had a deep bond with each other and loved each other immensely, to the extent that we were all present in Tehran for my husband's heart surgery. She continues: You may not believe it, but my two daughters and two sons had a very deep sister-brother relationship. This sincere love kept them together at the moment of martyrdom. Zahra, born in 1984, and Mohammad Mehdi, born in 1991, were my two eldest children who were martyred in the Zionist regime's aggression. Despite the seven-year age difference, they always respected each other. Mohammad Mehdi never got into the car before his sisters and always waited for them to get in first. Hijab, the main reason for the delay of martyr Zahra Nazari The mother of the Nazari martyrs, explaining the reason for their presence in Tehran and the events leading to their martyrdom, says: The duration of my husband's treatment in Tehran was uncertain, so we did not get a return ticket. For the greater comfort of the family, we rented an apartment on the second floor of a four-story building in Chitgar, Tehran. On Monday morning, June 16, I went to the doctor with Hossein, Zeinab, and Mohammad Mehdi to treat my hand pain. That same day, my son Mohammad Mehdi was able to get a return ticket for a week later, July 2. At 3:30 PM, we returned home and told the children to pack their belongings; we will be staying with relatives for this week. Not even a few minutes after this, the explosions started. My wife, brother, and son Hossein quickly left the house and told the rest of our children: Come! But they said: You go, we will come too.

He narrates: “It was noon. I had just returned from outside and was hot. Mohammad Mehdi had also just arrived and wanted tea. I had prepared the tea. He said he didn’t feel like eating. I would rest after tea. We were all sitting together and talking when the sound of an explosion surprised us. In fact, before that day, we had seen a lot of destruction in Tehran and martyrs being pulled out from under the rubble, but we didn’t expect it. We all looked at each other for a moment. Mohammad Mehdi asked his father and me to leave the building. Zahra and Zeinab were also looking for a tent. Hossein, my youngest son, helped his father and me get out of the building. It was on the last steps that the second explosion occurred. Everything collapsed on top of us. I could feel the heat of blood on my head and face. At that moment, I was thinking about the children and trying to find them; Zeinab, Zahra, and Mohammad Mehdi... My voice was not getting through.

The mother of the martyrs of Nazari, in addition to the pain of her children, has also been hurt in this incident; but despite this, she is patient, as is the custom of Zainab Kubra (PBUH). You can feel the pain in her words, but she narrates firmly and firmly, but sadly, saying: It was 3:30 in the afternoon. We were in the building. Four or five explosions occurred in that area. It was very loud. Everyone in the building left. I went to the exit with my wife, brother, and youngest son. I called my eldest son, Shahid Mohammad Mehdi, and my eldest daughter, Zahra, who were martyred. I called my second daughter, Fatemeh, who was very injured and had just been transferred to Mashhad. Shahid Mohammad Mehdi said, "Go, mom, we will come after you." The girls had gone to get their shawls, and at that moment they were also thinking about their shawls. Mohammad Mehdi wanted to accompany his sisters. When we reached the exit, the explosion occurred. The blast wave threw all of us, who were in a large crowd with other residents, and at that moment my two daughters and son were still upstairs and we were under the rubble. My head was broken, we didn't know where we were, darkness and gloom had taken over everywhere. It seems that my second daughter was in front of the door and her siblings hadn't come out yet, and they were thrown down from the window of the building by the explosion. They pulled us out of the rubble, but Mohammad Mehdi and Zahra were under the rubble.
