The operation targeted cells affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS). The operation was supported by ground and air forces from the International Coalition. Prior to the operation, all entrances and exits to the city were completely closed to ensure a tight security cordon and prevent any suspects from escaping. The operation resulted in the arrest of a number of individuals accused of belonging to ISIS cells. They were transferred to a security facility.
