Between one and three civilians were killed – reportedly Syrian refugees – and up to 47 more wounded in an alleged Kurdish YPG forces shelling of the city of Rihaniyah on the Syrian-Turkish border.

According to Sputnik, “the shells fell on the Ada Bujak district of the city center,” and resulted in “slightly injuring a person and damage to buildings and cars.” However, Sputnik, Alaraby and Orient later added that the mayor of Rihaniyah had said that a Syrian was killed and 32 others were wounded in a rocket attack by the YPG.

According to @tr_hbr_/, one person died but 37 more were wounded. @AreteErdem put the number injured still higher, at 47.

NTV quoted the Governor of the province of Hatay in Turkey, “who visited the Reyhanlı State Hospital where the wounded were treated, and said: ‘Thirty seven civilians were injured by the rockets fired from Syria. Thirty one of them were discharged after outpatient treatment and four were seriously injured.”

Two of the wounded civilians were named by @MevlutDudu as “Abdulrezzak Hadeka, and Ahmed Aslanoglu“.

Enab Baladi reported that “a Syrian refugee was killed and other civilians, including Turks, were wounded in a bombardment of the Turkish border town of Rihaniyah with Syria.”

The victim was named by multiple sources as Nader al-Faris from the city of Kafr Zeita in the northern suburb of Hama. It said he was “killed by a rocket… that hit the town”. Sources published pictures of him lying on the ground beside a car, along with images of mourners at his funeral.

Alwatan provided more detail on the locations hit by the shelling, reporting that “three shells from Syrian territory landed on the town of Rihaniyah in the southern province of Hatta. According to the Anatolia news agency, the first shell fell on a house in the neighborhood of Rifat Bahaderli, while the second shell targeted a shop in the neighborhood Jumhuriya. A third landed in the district of Tivur Sukman.” Additionally, Asharqalsouri said that artillery shells hit “Asfar hospital and the market”.

Other sources including Daleek Alsoreen, Euphrates Post and Syrians in Turkey News put the death toll at three civilians with a number more wounded.

Euphrates Post attributed the deaths to “rocket fire by elements of the YPG”.

The incident occured at approximately 4:00 pm local time.
