Late at night, on the 30th October 2023, the home of Abdullah Hijazi in the Al-Geneina neighborhood, in Tal al-Sultan, west of Rafah was hit by an alleged Israeli airstrike, killing at least ten members of the Hijazi family, including seven children and two women, and injuring others.
33-year-old Hamza Mufid Abdullah Hijazi and his wife, 32-year-old Asma Hamad Suleiman Hijazi, were killed with their sons, nine-year-old Abdullah Hamza Mufid Hijazi and eight-year-old Kareem Hamza Mufid Hijazi, and their four-year-old daughter Ghala Hamza Mufid Hijazi.
Hamza’s family was living with Hamza’s brother and his family when the bombing happened. Jihad Youssef Abdullah Hijazi, 29 years old, died along with her sons, six-year-old Mufid Abdullah Mufid Hijazi and five-year-old Youssef Abdullah Mufid Hijazi, and her two-year-old daughter Massa Abdullah Mufid Hijazi.
Sharing a photo of the victim from before the incident, Emad.abd made a post on Facebook the following day asking people to pray for the recovering of his colleague, Professor Abdullah Mufid Abdullah Hijazi, who was severely injured in the bombing. Abdullah, the 32 year old husband of Jihad and father of Mufid, Youssef, and Massa, succumbed to his injuries on November 3, 2023, according to a Facebook post from the Hijazi Family Youth Association.
A child victim of the strike was reportedly taken to Al-Najjar Hospital, but died shortly after her arrival. @NourNaim88 shared a video of medical teams trying to resuscitate a wounded young girl covered in ash and dust from the strike.
Shehab News agency reports that seven children were killed by the strike on the Hijazi family home. Social media tributes from relatives of the Hijazi family only included the names of the six children written above.
British-Palestinian journalist Sameh Habeeb shared images on Twitter/X of some of the nighttime rescue efforts following the alleged incident. Civil Defence teams can be seen using machinery to attempt to free wounded victims from the rubble. In other images, large pieces of rubble can be seen hanging preciously off the edge of the building.
Photos published by Nabd News, showed men carrying the victims shrouded bodies into the back of a pick up truck. An older man cradles the body of a young child in his arms.
In a photo shared by Monodoweiss, the family bury the bodies of their relatives who were killed in the strike.
Friends and family shared images from before the incident of Hamza with friends and colleagues. Other images showed Abdullah with his three young children, holding his toddler, Ghala, with one hand and taking a selfie with the other. Others shared their grief and paid tribute to the victims. A former classmate of Abdullah, Muawia Zourob, described him as a “good friend”.
A post from the Twitter/X account @MOSSADil, one of the earliest sources mentioning the incident, reported the that that were dead and wounded as a result of “an IDF artillery shelling”. Other sources, including @Bernadotte22, described the incident as an airstrike or bombing. While multiple sources mentioned injured, none specified how many.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
