Airwars assessment
At least two people were killed and at least four others were injured, some of whom were children, in an alleged Israeli airstrike that hit a house belonging to Khamis Saad, located north of the Nuseirat refugee camp in Deir al Balah, at dawn on August 1st, 2024.
Mohammed Maser Ghanem was killed in the strike, and was subsequently transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
Mohamed Awad, posting on Facebook, reported that though Ghanem was brought to Al-Aqsa Hospital, two others –both deceased– were brought to Al-Awda Hospital, in the northern part of Gaza.
Multiple sources, such as al-Ahed News, along with individuals like Ahmed Wishah, and @RqzLTb reported that the alleged Israeli bombardment of the Saad family home resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Ahmed Wishah claimed that one of those killed was a child; it is unclear whether this was referencing Mohammed Ghanem, whose age is unknown. While several other sources, including Misrdy News and Twitter/X user @Sa7atPlBreaking alleged that three people had been killed, no other names have been made public.
Though initial counts mentioned four injuries, Wishah further wrote that six people had been injured, “some of them serious.”
Videos circulating on social media from inside the hospital depict hospital personnel attending to people injured on the floor, including two children–both apparently of the Saad family– and at least one apparent deceased body. Additionally, photos shared on Twitter/X reveal the alleged aftermath of an Israeli bombardment of the Saad family’s home. Star of Islam posted on Facebook that Mr Khamis Saad owned the house and that the residence was located near the Mufti School. According to Safa Press Service, the Saad family home was set on fire as a result of the alleged Israeli airstrike. Photographs shared post-strike showed the destroyed facade of the multi-storey building, according to Safa PS news.
Where sources attributed responsibility, all pointed to Israeli forces.
