Shortly before 12:56 PM on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, a young girl was reportedly killed and up to four civilians, including one woman, were injured as a result of a missile strike with contested responsibility allegedly perpetrated by the Syrian regime forces and/or the Russian military and/or Iranian military on the residential neighborhood of Idlib city, Syria.
Several sources, including Twitter/X users @HadiAlabdallah and @Ibrahim02622591, claimed that internationally banned phosphorus bombs were used during the bombardment.
Many local sources reported on the incident and Jamil Al-Hassan’s post, @pvSScBsybeozsB8 and @TkrytyMr21896 identified the child who was killed as Rital Majed (or Imad) Al Adel. Jamil Al-Hassan’s post also included a video and reported that Rital Majed Al Adel was five years old and that her mother had been injured, while the @SyriaCivilDefe stated that Rital was approximately three years old and the woman injured was in her 40s.
Sports World wrote that there were four injuries resulting from the strike, but did not provide further details.
Multiple sources, including the Media office in Binnish and Twitter/X users @mzmgr941, @HadiAlabdallah, @TkrytyMr21896, and others, shared a graphic image of the dead Rital dressed in a red overalls, with traces of blood on her face. In one of the images, a big wound on her neck can be seen.
Twitter/X user @pvSScBsybeozsB8 shared a video where a happy Rital dressed in a pink jacket and pink sneakers can be seen running along the street and smiling at a camera.
@SyriaCivilDefe reported that the casualties occurred as one of the shells fell near a service facility and a park in the city. SCD added: “Our teams treated the injured women to hospital and confirmed that there were no other casualties.” The SCD also added an image of the neigborhood that was hit by the strike, an image of the injured woman in an ambulance, and a video showing the aftermath of the strike and remnants of the artillery shells on the ground. The video also featured a woman whose face was blurred with an arm injury who was brought by SCD volunteers to an ambulance.
When sources mentioned a belligerent, they attributed the strike to the Syrian regime forces and/or the Russian military and/or Iranian military.
The incident occured at approximately 12:56 pm local time.
