Airwars assessment
On September 23rd, 2024, an alleged Israeli artillery strike killed and injured a number of people in the town of Nabi Ayla, in Bekaa valley of eastern Lebanon.
A Facebook post from Zahle Politics and another from Lebanon Now broadcasted at around 9:30 AM reported Israeli “raids in the town of Nabi Ayla”, followed by two more reports from Akhbar Min Al Beqaa (News from Bekaa) and the Arab American University Radio’s respective Facebook accounts at around 11AM. More reports on Twitter/X in the afternoon, including @AlMayadeenLive and @Palcampnews, reported “martyrs and wounded” in the Israeli shelling of Nabi Ayla. Sources did not specify how many civilians were injured or killed – beyond using plural forms to refer to those harmed – and did not provide identifying information on either the deceased or wounded. In line with Airwars’ methodology, the plural form has been quantified as at least two fatalities and two injuries until further information emerges.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces. However, as multiple sources only repeated the information that “martyrs and wounded” resulted without any additional context, the civilian harm has been graded as “weak”.
The incident occured in the morning.
