Airwars assessment

At least seven civilians including two women and two children were killed and up to 40 more wounded in alleged long-range ballistic missiles (Scud) strikes launched from battleships in the Mediterranean. But sources were conflicted as to whether this was the work of Russia or Syrian regime. The majority of sources attributed the attacks to Russian battleships. However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Syria News Desk and the Syrian Network for Human Rights blamed regime forces.

The victims reportedly included a pregnant woman whose eight-month-old fetus was saved, but the mother was killed.

The missiles reportedly targeted residential neighborhoods and a marketplace. Images and footage depicted crumbled buildings and destroyed market stalls.

Further photographs, published by the Media Office for the city of Dara Izza, showed injured children being treated in medical facilities.

Said Ahmed Rashid, a member of Dara Azza media office, told Syria News Desk that regime troops stationed in the defense plants near the city of Al Safira (which is under their control) launched a ballistic missile, and fell on a popular vegetable market in the center of Dara Aza.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
