Airwars assessment
US forces carried out a strike approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Kismayo after al Shabaab fighters attacked Somali forces, according to a US Africa Command press release.
Nine al Shabaab fighters were allegedly killed and another injured, the US command claimed.
The press release said AFRICOM had assessed that no civilians were killed or injured in the action – and there are no known associated public reports.
According to VOA reporter Harun Maruf and the Long War Journal, the strike took place near Jamaame. The town was reportedly retaken from al Shabaab by Somali troops the day before.
The local time of the incident is unknown.

Reports of the incident mention that the strike took place in the town Jamaame, 40 kilometers northeast of the city Kismayo. The coordinates for Jamaame are: 0.06978, 42.748066. Due to limited information and satellite imagery available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.

"In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. forces conducted an airstrike after al-Shabaab militants attacked Somalian Government forces approximately 40 kilometers northeast of Kismayo, Somalia, on October 1, 2018.
We currently assess nine (9) militants were killed in the strike. One (1) other militant was wounded.
We currently assess no civilians were injured or killed in this airstrike."
