Airwars assessment

Between six and 13 civilians, including a woman and two children, were killed and others were wounded in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes and artillery strikes on the town of Ebleen on June 10, 2021.

According to Euphrates Post, “the Assad regime forces bombed with missiles and heavy artillery the town of “Iblin” in Idlib countryside, killing seven civilians, including a woman, and wounding others. The names of the dead are “Mohammed Abdel Hamid Al-Assi”, “Walid Sobhi Al-Assi”, “Abdullah Abdul-Qader Al-Assi”, “Walaa Muhammad Al-Assi”, “Hudhayfa Tariq Al-Assi”, “Walid Samih Harmoush” and “Ahmed Sakhr Duqmaq”.

Ariha Today added Abdullah Abdul Qader Al-Asi as killed in the strikes and added a list of injured: Hassan Mohamed Assi 2002 (M), Ahmed Sakhr Duqmaq 2002 (M), Ahmed Masoud Duqmaq 1995 (M), Mohamed Mamdouh Shuhaiber 1999 (M), Abdullah Mohammed Al-Asi 1996 (M), Talja Abdo Hormone 1965 (F), Tarek Nazih Asi 2000 (M), Mohamed Abdel Hamid Assi 1968 (M), Walid Sobhi Asi 1985 (M), Asad Asad Al-Asi, male, 2017 (M), Hassan Mohammed Al-Asi 1998 (M), Muhammad Asad Al-Asi 2018 (M), Khadija Salah Al-Fadl, 2001, female (F)

A tweet from @seerij80 added that Muhammad Al-Asi was a “great professor and esteemed educator” and “everyone who knew him loved him and held him in appreciation and respect. Today, he and a number of his relatives bid farewell to us after they were martyred as a result of the Russian occupation bombing of their home in the town of Abilene.”

@abazeid89 identified that “the boy, Abdullah Muhammad Al-Asi, died of his wounds, to join his father, sister and nephew in the #Iblin massacre today,” making it clear that many of the victims were from the same family. Walaa Muhammad Al-Assi and Hudhayfa Al-Asi were also related, mother and son, and were both killed, with the son Hudhayfa being survived by two of his siblings.

A tweet from @asseraaalsham put the number killed at “13 martyrs, including five from the Al-Asi family, were killed by Russia using its Krassenpol laser-guided bombs, with an accuracy of 98%.” The highest estimate for civilians killed was given by @zelal_abo_adnan, tweeting that the strikes “claimed the lives of about 15 martyrs”.

Turkish Radio and Television reported that the number of civilians wounded was six while Syrian Network for Human Rights gave the number of injured civilians as 15. Along with an estimate of 6 killed, Anadolu Agency published that three of the 13 wounded were in critical condition at the time of reporting.

Eurphrates Post also reported that “three people from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, led by the spokesman for the military wing, “Abu Khaled al-Shami,” were killed by artillery shelling by the regime forces and Russia targeting the town of Iblin in Jabal al-Zawiya, south of Idlib” and that the “car of the military wing’s spokesman” was struck. The names given were “”Al-Shami” and the media coordination official nicknamed “Abu Musab”, and a third person whose name is not known.”

Baladi News named the other two militants as “Abu Musab al-Homsi”, a military coordination official in media relations, and “Abu Tamer al-Homsi”, follower of the affairs of press delegations in the Office of Media Relations. According to Syria TV, “they stopped to retrieve and rescue the victims who had fallen as a result of the Russian bombing of the village, and in the meantime they were directly exposed to a Russian raid, which led to the burning of the car and killing them.” France 24 put the number of militants killed at five. Geolocation of the strike that killed Abu Musab al-Homis was completed by @CourtenaySargon.

None of the names or images of the civilians given by sources match those identified as militants and the civilians were identified as being killed in their home while the militants were in a car.

According to @anasanas84, “Russian media publishes a video showing the moment the village of Abilin was targeted” from the perspective of those controlling the laser-guided bomb. Sources were contested as to who was responsible but the majority of the sources pointed to Russian missiles.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
