Airwars assessment
At least two civilians, both women, were killed and two to three others, including a woman, were injured in alleged Russian or regime strikes on Al Bara on June 21, 2021.
Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that “two women, named as Wahidah Hamdou Abu Shakhah and Fatimah al Yasin, were killed and others injured when Syrian regime artillery forces fired shells at houses located near the high-water tank in northeast of al Bara village.” Syrian TV correspondent provided information that the bombing “led to the killing of 3 civilians – including two women”.
@RaedAlSaleh3 tweeted about their aunt “Fatima” who was killed in the bombing of Al Bara. Ahmad Abo Shakha posted on Facebook about their aunt Waheeda Abu Shakha who was killed in the same incident.
@IbnAlarabi15 alleged that a belligerent was also killed, tweeting about “the martyrdom of the military commander in the 1st Infantry Division, Muhammad al-Qadi, from the village of Kafr Sijna in Idlib countryside, as a result of the bombing of al-Bara by Assad forces”.
A tweet from @HalabTodayTV identified ” two civilians were injured in shelling by the regime forces on the town of Al-Bara”. @Step_Agency upped the numbers, reporting that “3 civilians were wounded” and Syrian Civil Defense gave the additional information that “4 others (two men and two women)” were injured. Baladi News added that those injured had “serious injury”.
Nassan Al-Jaber, an elderly man in his seventies, was injured along with his wife according to @EdlibNN.
@Tiger_forces_, a pro-regime source, tweeted that “the Syrian Arab Army is intensively targeting the locations of terrorist factions in the town of Al-Bara” but gave no other details.
Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the bombing. Enab Baladi attributed the strikes to the regime but pointed out that shelling included artillery shells and “Krasnopol” missiles, a Russian-made weapon. However, NPA Syria reported that “artillery shelling with “guided laser” missiles (was) carried out by the Russian forces stationed in the town of Basqala”.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
