Airwars assessment

Between four and eight civilians, including up to four women and three children, were killed and 20 others were injured in alleged Russian or regime airstrikes on a popular market in Binnish on January 11, 2020.

According to a tweet by @Homs19850111, 4 women and 3 children were killed and others were wounded as a preliminary result of an air strike that targeted a popular market in the city of Binnish. However, @Syriaaaaidlb put the initial toll at six killed, adding that “dozens” were also injured in the attack.

@SY_plus reported that four people, three girls (sisters) and their grandmother, were killed and more than 20 others were wounded in the bombing of a popular market. The director of the Civil Defense Center in the city, Abdul Latif Nasser, reported similar numbers, adding that there were critical cases among the wounded and that three raids were carried out on Binnish.

A Facebook post from Hiysh All provided the names of five of the people killed and four of the people injured who were from the town of Hiysh. The names of those killed: Shahd Khaled Al-Sheikh, Rawda Taha Al-Youssef, Maha Khaled Al-Sheikh, Maram Khaled Al-Sheikh, Aseel Nabil Al-Sheikh. The names of those injured: Mohammed Sheikh, Ghaida Al-Sheikh, Eid Nabil Sheikh, Muhammad Mustafa Sheikh.

Syrian Network for Human Rights reported on January 22nd, 11 days after the attack, that Abdul Salam Asaad Fallahah died from the wounds sustained in the strikes on Binnish.

@AyhamSteif identified the location of the strikes as being in the center of the city close to shelters for displaced people.

Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the strikes, with @Ahmad_1alshble blaming the regime and identifying MiG/21 planes as being part of the attack, while others attributed the strikes to Russia. A Facebook post by Agency.news.Haq reported that vacuum missiles were part of the bombing.
