Airwars assessment

A pregnant woman and a child were killed and between one and three others, including up to two children, were injured in alleged Russian or regime artillery/heavy machine gun attack on the village of Maret Al Nassan on July 4, 2022.

According to @SyriaCivilDefe, a woman was killed and two children were injured in alleged Russian and regime attacks on the village of Maret Al Nassan. @SyriaCivilDefe added that the two children that were injured are brother and sister while Baladi News identified a man as being among the injured.

A tweet from @HalabTodayTV put the casualty count at one woman killed and three people injured, including a child. @OrientNews specified that members of the Al-Shawash family were among the casualties. However Zaman Al Wasl reported that a woman and a child were killed.

Syrian Network for Human Rights provided the name of the woman killed as Mrs. Mysaa al Damen (30 years old) and stated that she was pregnant at the time, and her unborn baby was killed. Her daughter was also injured in the bombing. Zaman Al Wasl identified Mrs. Mysaa as being a displaced person from the town of “Al-Kusaibiya” in the western countryside of Aleppo.

@shaamnews reported that civilian homes were struck during the attack.

The majority of sources that reported on this incident attributed the strikes to regime forces, with Zaman Al Wasl specifying that regime forces stationed in the town of “Miznaz” carried out the attack. However, the Syrian Civil Defense tweeted that the regime and Russian forces were responsible.

@HadiAlabdallah identified heavy artillery shells as being used in the attack, and Zaman Al Wasl added that heavy machine guns were also used. Additional sources pointed out that mortar shells were part of the bombardment.

The incident occured in the evening.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

Three civilians were reported  wounded following an airstrike with a phosphorous bomb attack in Ariha, Idlib, according to local media sources – though it was unclear whether Russia or the Assad regime were responsible for the attack.

Smart News, who also reported the attack to be a phosphorous bomb attack, stated that “six more raids took place in the city, injuring three civilians and causing “significant damage” to buildings and property.”

Whilst the majority of sources reported that it was a “suspected Russian” attack, Orient News stated: “the regime’s aircraft carried out raids with incendiary phosphorus bombs.”

Syrian Network for Human Rights, who attributed responsibility for the event with Russian forces, reported that a missile was fired on the Post Office in Ariha.

It should be noted that not all sources referred to the phosphorous attack, some only mentioned airstrikes.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

On October 29th, 2022, after midnight, one civilian, a woman, was reportedly killed, and two others injured, a man and a child, as a result of an alleged SDF or Syrian regime missile strike on their house in Kuwait Al-Rahman IDP camp, in Afrin countryside, in Aleppo governorate.

Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) identified the woman killed as 30-years-old Samira Mohammad al-Hussein Kerzak. One local source added that she was displaced, and originally from Damascus. Sources described the victims as part of the same family, and the injured as Samira Mohammad al-Hussein Kerzak’s husband and her child. Syria Civil Defense (SCD) reported that two children from the same family also suffered from ‘psychological trauma’ as they saw their mother killed by the strike. Masar Press News indicated that the child injured was a young girl, while @77Mikiy claimed that it was a 6-months infant. The injured were reportedly transported by SCD workers to Afrin hospital to receive first aid. However, according to Abdul Hadi Abu Muhammad, director of Kuwait Al-Rahma camp, interviewed by Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the infant was transfered to Turkey due to critical injuries.

Some sources claimed that the strike was conducted by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) while others said Syrian regime forces were responsible for the bombing. SCD reported that the bombing came from areas under the control of both the Syrian regime, Russian forces and the SDF. The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that a rocket launcher was used in the attack. Abdul Hadi Abu Muhammad, director of Kuwait Al-Rahma” camp, interviewed by Al-Araby Al-Jadeed stated that “at two o’clock after midnight on Friday, two missiles landed inside the camp”.Afrin Post claimed that 6 rockets, fired from al-Shahba area, hit Al-Rahman camp.

Following the strike, SCD observed the displacement of a large number of families and described a ‘state of panic’ inside the camp.

The same source claimed that during the month of October, Kuwait Al-Rahman IDP camp and nearby Wadi Al-Hamam camp were bombed 5 times.

The incident occured at 02:00:00 local time.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

At least five and as many as dozens of civilians were injured in an airstrike on a hospital in Shana, local media reported. Most sources blamed Russia, though there was an allegation against the regime.

According to Jisrtv, “The hospital in the village of Shanan was put out of service by the bombing of the Russian occupation aircraft with missiles and cluster bombs, which also resulted in the injury of members of the medical staff.”

Syria Mirror reported: “The Russian warplanes launched several air strikes with rockets and cluster bombs at Al-Ikhlas Hospital in the village of Shanan in Jabal Al-Zawiya, wounding five members of the medical staff, including a e member of the civil defense. The building was damaged along with cars and private property”.

Alkhaleejonline said that “dozens” of hospital employees were wounded, noting that the hospital specialised in treating women and children with obstetrics and gynecology departments “where doctors perform some minor surgeries”.

Orient was alone in pointing to the Assad regime as the culprit.
