On Monday, 23rd September 2024, 14 civilians, including six women and seven children across two families were killed when an alleged Israeli bombardment hit the town of Jabal al-Batm in the Al-Batm mountains in Southern Lebanon. The families were sheltering together in one house when they were killed.
Twitter user @mhanna611 reported the incident in a post that read “14 people from my village, #Jabal_Al_Batam, were martyred” when the strike hit. The post further explained that “Two entire families, most of them women and children, were in one house and were killed.” A video shared alongside the post depicted the bombing of the town in South Lebanon and the aftermath. Debris lined the streets and multi-story houses were depicted in ruins.
In a post made on Facebook at 6.22 pm, news outlet Bint Jbeil reported the death of two young women killed “with their families” in the strike that hit the Al-Batam Mountains, identifying them as 23-year-old Rayhana Hassan Eidibii and 22-year-old Nour al-Huda Hassan Eidibii. The two young women were killed alongside their family – their sisters, the children Ramla Hassan Eidibii and Latifa Hassan Eidibii, 24-year-old Fatima Hassan Eidibii, and their parents, their mother Rima Balhasi and their father Hassan Ahmed Eidibi.

Facebook user Nadia Bakria mourned the family’s death, sharing a photo collage depicting the family in four photos. In one photo Rima is depicted as an older woman in a black hijab taking a selfie in front of a crowd. In another, Hassan is depicted as an older man in a black jacket waving at the camera. In another photo, their five young daughters are depicted grouped together smiling at the camera.
