Airwars assessment
Three civilians were killed and others were reportedly injured by an alleged Israeli strike in the town of Al Fakhari, east of Khan Younis, on June 21, 2024.
At 3am that day, the Palestinian Information Center wrote on Twitter/X that there had been a raid “targeting” Al Fakhari and other news sources referenced the bombing as being carried out by an Israeli drone. Safa News Agency first reported three people killed at 8.37am in Al Fakhari, attributing their deaths to an “Israeli bombing.” At 8.43am, the names of the deceased were announced as 29-year-old Yassin Muhammad al-Amour, 32-year-old Mahmoud Adel al-Najjar, and Mahmoud’s eight-year-old son, Adel Mahmoud al-Najjar.
A photograph of Yassin sitting cross-legged in the grass was posted by a Facebook page purportedly for members of his family called ‘Nashama of the Amour clan’ to announce his death. Other photos were posted of Yassin to commemorate him, including one of him posing by the sea and another of him riding a motorcycle.
Abdullah Al-Najjar, possibly a relative of Mahmoud and his son Adel, mourned their deaths in a Facebook post: “With faithful hearts, the martyr Mahmoud Adel Al-Najjar and his son Adel bled. We only say what pleases our Lord. We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.” The post was accompanied with a screenshot of a message announcing the deaths of Yassin, Mahmoud, and Adel in a “bombing from an Israeli drone.”
According to medical sources who spoke to Anadolu Agency, three civilians were killed in the strike and an unspecified amount of ‘others’ were injured.
Nine sources attributed this incident to the Israeli military, including the Anadolu Agency, Al Ahad News Agency, Al Araby TV, and Safa News Agency. The names of the deceased are also consistently reported as the same three across all reporting of the incident. Therefore, this incident has been graded as a likely strike by Airwars.
Names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of fatalities in Gaza released July 24th 2024.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
