At approximately 11:40 PM on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, an alleged Israeli airstrike struck a service center containing building materials for the reconstruction of public facilities, belonging to the Jihad Construction Foundation, near the towns of Hajira and al-Sayyida Zaynab area south of Damascus, Syria. Three civilians, including a woman, were reportedly killed and eight civilians were injured as a result of the strike, according to local sources.
According to the social media tributes, an elderly woman, Fatima Hamdou Ali, was killed by the strike along with two men, Abdul Hadi Kayed Taha and Hussein Mustafa Alba (Abu Ali).
Twitter user @daraa_net_2020 paid tribute to Fatima Hamdou Ali, Abdul Hadi Kayed Taha, and Hussein Mustafa Alba across multiple posts. An image of the late Hussein was shared, showing a middle-aged man with a gray beard wearing a grey shirt. Abdul Hadi was also a middle-aged man with a short beard dressed in a black T-shirt with white stripes and jeans.
A tweet by @kholoudahassan also reported on the death of Fatima Hamdou Ali who was 80 years old, and referenced the injuries of eight unnamed others. The tweet was accompanied by images of a man with a head injury, standing barefoot, and of a woman in a white headscarf squatting in front of the stretchers where an injured or dead person was lying.
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that at 11:40 pm on Wednesday, Israel carried out strikes that struck a number of points in the southern region, killing two civilians and injuring one military personnel member.
A tweet by @anasanas84 also identified Israel as the belligerent. Another tweet by user @mjrdzayr337191 shared a video of the strikes and also reported that Israeli accounts claimed that a Quds Force meeting was the reason for the strikes. Across local social media, multiple posts showed photographic evidence of material damage sustained following the missile strikes, particularly the burnt vehicles and trucks.
Multiple social media users alleged that the strike hit the Iranian Jihad al-Binaa Foundation. In particular, Twitter/X user @DrDrss1199 reported “deaths and injuries as a result of the bombing that targeted a headquarters belonging to the Iranian Jihad al-Binaa Foundation,” sharing images of the burnt and destroyed vehicles covered with grey dust.
The sources described the exact location of the strike in different ways. Some claimed it was near the shrine of Sayyida Zeinab, the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad, south of Damascus while others reported that the strike hit a service center near the town of Hajira.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
