Their June 2017 civilian casualty report noted: “During a strike on an ISIS command and control node and VBIED staging position, it was assessed that two civilians were unintentionally killed when they entered the target area after the munition was released.”

The Coalition provided Airwars with the location for this incident, accurate to within a one metre box. The location given placed the event near Al Zanjili.

Airwars had previously thought that this entry in the June 2017 report was referring to CI591, however, in July 2019 the opportunity arose to clarify this with the Coalition and they confirmed that they were, in fact, separate incidents.

Al Rafidain published a video on the day (probably originating from ISIL) which showed significant damage to a west Mosul neighbourhood, along with dead and injured civilians. Local journalist Zyaad Alsenjary claimed civilian homes had been targeted.

In July 2019, the Coalition provided Airwars with coordinates for the event, accurate to within a 100 metre box.

As many as nine civilians were killed in a nighttime Coalition airstrike at Al Qaim.

While the US has conceded three deaths, one site referred at the time to “nine dead along with the destruction of civilian property, due to heavy strikes by the international Coalition at midnight yesterday on the city of Al Qaim.”

In a statement issued July 28th 2016, CENTCOM reported: “On February 15, 2016, near Al Qaim, Iraq, during a strike on an ISIL staging area, it is assessed that three civilians were killed.”

Local sources said Coalition airstrikes struck civilian houses in Al Arabi neighborhood, northeast of Mosul, and left dozens of civilian casualties. The area targeted belongs to the Christian community and had been under ISIL control.

Ajel Al Mosul reported that “one of the houses, which was bombed at Arabi neighborhood, is the house of Nurse Labiba…”

In April 2018 the Coalition stated that “After a review of available information and strike video it was assessed that no Coalition strikes were conducted in this geographic area that correspond to the report of civilian casualties.”

However, in its September 2018 monthly report it accepted responsibility for five deaths, noting that “During a strike on ISIS fighting positions and an ISIS headquarters building, three civilians were unintentionally killed.”
