Incident date

March 27–28, 2019

Location

الشيخ نجار وقرب مطار حلب الدولي, Al sheikh Najar and near Aleppo airport, Aleppo, Syria

Airwars assessment

Between seven and 10 belligerents, specifically member of the Iranian forces and their loyal militias, were killed and others were wounded in alleged Israeli strikes on Al sheikh Najar and near Aleppo airport around midnight between March 27/28, 2019.

Euphrates Post reported “Israeli planes targeted midnight on Wednesday with violent raids in the vicinity of Aleppo International Airport. Local media sources said that huge explosions were heard in the vicinity of Aleppo International Airport and Sheikh Najjar area, in conjunction with the escalation of the flames.” They added that according to the forces loyal to the regime, “the Israeli aircraft targeted some sites in the industrial area in Sheikh Najjar northeast of Aleppo, and limited damage to materials only.”

A tweet from @BabakTaghvaee identified the facilities struck as “a rocket manufacturing workshop at Sheikh Najar industrial zone, near the #Aleppo International Airport. It is reported that #IRGC was producing Fajr-5C precision guided rockets for #Syria Arab Army there. #Israel Air Force’s F-16D/Is & F-15Is dropped their SDBs on the #IRGC targets near #Aleppo from 45,000 to 51,000ft altitude.”

Syrian Arab News Agency also reported that “a number of industrial sites in Sheikh Najar industrial region” were hit with strikes and that damage was material only.

While various sources reported that the damage was material only, Step News Agency posted about “the sound of ambulances in several neighborhoods in Aleppo and news of casualties and casualties in the ranks of the regime and its militias as a result of the Israeli raids that touched the vicinity of Aleppo airport just before.” Syrian Observatory gave specific information that “at least 7 of the Iranian forces and their loyal militias have been killed, as a result of Israeli strikes against ammunition depots of the Iranian forces and their loyal militias, in Sheikh Najjar Industrial Area on the outskirts of Aleppo city, and the death toll may rise because there are some injured people.”

Jerusalem Post gave information that “according to the Syrian Human Rights Center, ten people died and the city of Aleppo in Syria is in chaos due to the “Israeli strike,” Maariv initially reported. The report is in contrast to official Syrian media reports that suggest Syrian air defenses defended the area.”

The Times of Israel reported that “Acting Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Thursday appeared to confirm that Israeli warplanes struck Iranian military targets outside the northern Syrian city of Aleppo overnight. In an interview with Israel Radio, Katz said that “as far as Iran knows, it’s Israel” that carried out the strike targeting a weapons depot, and went on to say that it was a “challenging” operation to perform.”

Aljazeera added that “the blasts caused an electrical blackout in Aleppo, the country’s second-largest city and a major industrial hub that bore the brunt of years of fighting and heavy Russian and Syrian aerial bombardment on its former rebel-held areas. Other attacks hit the vicinity of al-Nairab military airport on the outskirts of Aleppo in the second such attack on the installation used by Iranian troops in less than a year.”

The incident occured around midnight.

Airwars assessment

Between four and eight civilians, including at least one woman and two children, were injured in alleged Russian or regime strikes on the village of Bzabor in the southern countryside of Idlib on June 18, 2021

Activists from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on the “injury of six civilians, including a woman and two children, due to the regime rocket attacks on Bazabour village”. However, @Step_Agency tweeted that “4 civilians, most of them children, were injured.”

Higher counts were given by @Nabel_othman023, who reported that “the number of injuries in the village of #Bzabur has reached 7, from one family, including a woman and two girls” and @AmerBakri89 wrote that the shelling “seriously wounding 8 civilians”. Enab Baladi News identified “two women and two girls” as being injured in the incident.

@IdlibPlus identified that all of the civilians that were injured were members of the same family. Macro Media Center reported on one of the victims, Zaki Asi, who “is seventy years old. His only sin is that he returned from displacement to his home in the village of Bazabur to harvest his crops from the mahlab, so that the Assad regime’s shells were waiting for him and his wife, son and wife and their sons”.

Macro Media Center published a video showing the White Helmets rescuing members of the family, pointing out that “the Syrian Civil Defense team survived a shell that fell meters away from the ambulance”.

Syrian Civil Defense pointed out that the shelling “almost completely destroying the structure of the house” and quoted Syrian Network for Human Rights as stating that “the targeted area is a civilian one and free of any military presence or equipment.”

Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the strikes. Zaiton Magazine reported that “regime forces bombed the town of Bazabour in Jabal Al-Arbaeen, south of Idlib, with more than 6 artillery shells this morning”. However, @voicenorth1 attributed the strikes to Russia.

The incident occured in the morning.

Ehsim Now posted the names of those injured: Muhammad Taha Taqiqa, 55 years old; Akram Taqiqa, the son of Muhammad Taha Taqiqa, a minor injury, 14 years old; Hamza Teqiqa, the son of Muhammad Taha, a minor injury, 4 years old; Saba Taqiqa, daughter of Muhammad Taqiqa, a 14-year-old, hand amputation injury; Hadeel Taqiqa, daughter of Muhammad Taha Tuqiqa, Injury, 17 years old; Fatima Taqiqa, daughter of Muhammad Taha, a 20-year-old injured; Sadiq Taqiqa Ibn Abdul Latif, a minor injury, 50 years old; Samer Taqiqa.

Among the dead is Taha Taqiqa, who “waited for his bride [Maryam Barakat] for several years until she graduated from university, and after her graduation she came to him and they got married three days ago. Yesterday, a shell fell and killed him and his bride, along with six other family members, in the town of Ihsim in Idlib countryside” according to a tweet from @Alassaf1977.

Samer Muhammad Sabri Taqiqa, the father of Aya, Iman, Khadija and Tasneem, lost four of his daughters and insisted that he dress Aya in her Eid costume before he bid her final farewell, Al Jazeera reported. He named his daughter Aya Sophia because she was “born in conjunction with the opening of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul last year by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.”

@Gurbtwatan tweeted that it took “more than 30 hours” for the Civil Defense teams to retrieve the body of Iman Samer Taqiqa from under the rubble.

France24 reported that “an AFP photographer in Ihsem saw paramedics working after midnight under floodlights to retrieve the body of a woman from the rubble of the roof of a collapsed house. They wrapped the body in a blanket and took it to an ambulance. A survivor of the family told AFP that visitors were gathered at the house to congratulate a family member on his marriage.”

The majority of sources that reported on the incident attributed the strikes to the regime or the regime and Russia. Al Araby News blames the regime and reported that regime forces bombed the village “from the Hamidiya base in the city of Maarat al-Numan”. However, Shaam News identified artillery shelling, originating from the Russian forces, with advanced Krassenpol missiles, coinciding with the flight of Russian reconnaissance planes that did not leave the airspace. They added that “the defense teams had great difficulty working, as reconnaissance planes monitored the area at night,” for fear that they would launch a double strike on the rescue crews.

The incident occured around midnight.

A harsh night stained with the blood of civilians in the town of Ihsem, south of Idlib, filled with cries of pain and separation, a massacre by the regime forces and Russia added to their list of crimes that resulted in 7 deaths (3 children and 4 women) and 9 injuries, most of them children and women, and the criminal is at large without accountability.
  • "Maryam and Taha" is a tale of the Syrian tragedy with a sad ending. They were the victims of the Ihsem massacre, south of Idlib, last night, a story of pain and separation similar to what the Syrians have been experiencing for ten years. Watch their story in the video... #not_a_target

Aya wears Eid clothes. She wears it instead of a shroud. Aya departed due to her injuries to stay with her sisters Iman, Khadija and Tasneem forever. The four sisters were victims of the #Ahssam massacre, which was committed by the regime forces and Russia on the night of July 18, With two hands trembling forcibly, and a voice choking with sadness, the father called her and put her in the Eid dress. Not only her father suffers, but everyone who has a conscience suffers. #not_a_targ
