Kharkiv Today reported that evacuation from the region began on April 4th after the area became under temporary Russian occupation. Other local sources noted that attacks by Russian forces on evacuation buses were common.

Interfax news also reported that on Borovka village council’s Facebook page it stated that “according to our information, there are 7 wounded in Brovaya hospital, 4 of them in serious condition, there is one wounded child. The hospital is in urgent need of medication, including anaesthetics, as well as food and clothing for the injured.” It also reported that due to the destroyed roads and bridges in the area, it is impossible to bring medicine and other vital aid, “as well as the fact that the Russian occupiers prohibit movement between villages in the community.”

Dialog.ua news reported that “the tragedy happened on Thursday April 14th near the village of Borova, near the Russian occupied town of Izyum. The Russian Armed Forces opened fire on buses carrying civilians who were trying to leave the site of the fighting. Airwars assessment

On April 9th, 2023, in the town off Sarmin, east of Idlib, multiple sources allege artillery fire from Syrian and/or Russian forces killed 15 year old boy Ibrahim Musab Al Haj Musa and injured between three to four others, including a six year old child named Malak Khalaf, a three year old named Abdul Salam Al Mustafa, and one and a half year old baby named Muhammad Al Mousa, the names being from the Syrian Civil Defense and Baladi News reports.

Ibrahim Musab Al Haj Musa dreamed of becoming a doctor or an engineer; multiple sources note that he had been born in Saraqib, and had been displaced by the war to live in Sarmin.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the Syrian Human Rights Committee, and the Syrian Civil Defense, and other sources note that the artillery strikes affected residential areas and markets in Sarmin, and Twitter user @mzmgr941 stated the strikes were “targeting civilians exclusively”.

Syria Files alleged the artillery strikes came from Syrian regime forces based in Saraqib, the hometown of Ibrahim Musab Al Haj Musa. Twitter user @mzmgr941 reported the bombing of the city had escalated, and a number of reconnaissance planes hovered over the city, and blamed Syrian regime forces along with the Russian and Iranian occupation.

Multiple sources blame Syrian president Bashar Al Assad personally for the attack, claiming it was in reaction to an earlier strike from Israel, including @Omar_Madaniah and @k7ybnd99, a reporter for Television Syria. As the Syrian Civil Defense reports, this alleged strike occurred in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake in Syria, which has further devastated the lives of Syrians, and during the holy month of Ramadan, “[depriving] families of the joy of being reunited at the Iftar tables.”

The local time of the incident is unknown.

The victims were named as:

Airwars assessment

Between 6 and 11 civilians were killed and 30 to 61 others, including at least 2 children, were injured by alleged Russian airstrikes on Jisr Al Shoughar on June 25, 2023.

@SyriaCivilDefe initially reported the casualty toll as five civilians killed and more than 20 injured but later tweeted that the death toll had risen to nine civilians killed and more than 30 injured, including serious cases and later in the day reached 61 wounded, including children. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported that nine people were killed, but identified six civilians and three combatants among the total number. Aljazeera put the number of wounded at more than 34 while a tweet from @Omar_Madaniah reported that 11 civilians were killed in the marketplace airstrikes.

Jisr Al Shughour media office published the names of the victims on Facebook. Here are the names of the injured who arrived at Jisr Hospital: Omar Kurdi, Abdul Mohsen Kurdi, Othman Al-Faraj, Adel Alloush, Bashar Ali Al-Hassan, Hussein Al Jamil, Hassan Sam’ou , Faris Alloush, Asaad Al-Hussein, Alloush Alloush, Mamoun Ahmed Khalif, Ibrahim Al-Hajji, Ibrahim Qassem, Abdul Razzaq Ahmed Turkawi, Ahmed Abdul Razzaq Turkawi, Hussein Al-Sayed, Muhammad hijazzi, Ali Ibrahim Amouri, Mohammed al-Hussein, Rashid Fadel, Zakaria Turkestani, Khaled Alloush, Ahmed Abdullah Hussein, Hassan Ahmed Hassan, Hossam Hussein Muhaimid, Marwan Khaled Al-Alewi, Faraj Hassan Al-Hajji, Ayman Raslan, Adnan Muhammed Sharif, Fares Rahil. Here are two of those killed: Khaled Al-Hajji, Sumer Khalil.

Orient News and various other sources mentioned that most of the victims were farmers or vendors.

@SyriaCivilDefe added that some of the victims were taken to Al-Qunya Hospital, and images show adults and children being treated for their wounds.

Aljazeera quoted Reda Hayshid, a 21-year-old vegetable vendor who said that “During our work today at the vegetable market, we were startled by an air strike that targeted the market where we were present, turning [it] into a pool of blood and the remains of victims. The scenes of my friends whom I used to see daily in this market continue to haunt my imagination as some of them were taking their last breaths, while others have lost their limbs due to the air strike.”

Aljazeera also quoted Rami Jaafar, who was buying groceries at the market 10 minutes before the bombing and rushed back to check on his relatives who were working in the market: “On my way back home with my family, we heard the sound of an explosion coming from the direction of the vegetable market. I quickly secured my family in one of the houses in Jisr al-Shughour and rushed to the market to check on my cousins who were there. The place was filled with dust, the smell of blood and gunpowder permeating the air. There was no sound except for the moans of the wounded and the ambulances that transported my cousins to the hospital.”

Saad Fato, a 35-year-old labourer who survived the strike on the market, told AFP (quoted by The National) that he helped efforts to try to rescue the wounded. He was unloading tomatoes and cucumbers at the time of the attack, describing the aftermath as “It was indescribable, seeing the dead, the wounded.”

Local sources identified the location of the strikes as al-Hal market, also known as the tomato market, a fruit and vegetable market on the outskirts of the city of Jisr Al Shoughar. Sham News specified that the market is located near the sugar factory, east of the city of Jisr Al Shoughar. Local vendor Reda Hayshid told Aljazeera that the market is considered a central one for most farmers in the area and in its outskirts to sell their produce daily.

All of the sources attributed the airstrikes to Russian forces, and Aljazeera specified that a Russian Su-34 carried out the airstrikes on Jisr Al Shoughar and Yeni Safak quoted information from the Syrian opposition flight control observatory in Idlib which reported that three Russian planes took off from Hmeimim Airport in Latakia Governorate at 10:03 local time.

North Press Agency reported that in the aftermath, more than 50 families fled Jisr Al Shoughar due to fear from the repeated airstrikes.

The incident occured at 10:08:00 local time.

A tweet from @jabalybaraa includes a video of the Civil Defense vehicle up in flames, which was attributed to a guided missile, which resulted in the death of the volunteer.

The majority of the sources attributed the missile attack to the Syrian regime, while @tAAprK80Nn3GKmd identified Russian forces as responsible.

Airwars assessment

On the evening of October 8th 2023, 12 people were reported injured, including a baby, when an alleged Israeli strike hit Yarmouk Mosque in the Gaza Strip. The mosque was reported to be completely destroyed.

A tweet from @ShehabAgency stated that 12 injured people arrived at the Al-Shifa Medical complex, while other sources mentioned that there were casualties without noting an exact toll. Images posted by various sources show a baby and an elderly woman injured near the mosque.

Felesteen News spoke to a witness named Bilal Salama (38 years old) who described what happened: “The bombing was sudden, without warning, we felt that the house was exploding, and after the smoke and dust cleared, the vision began to become clearer. I found my daughter bleeding from the impact of glass flying on her head. We all went down to check on my father and mother, who live on the ground floor and whose door opens directly onto the mosque. As you can see, we could not enter from here, so we went from the back and made holes in the walls, and we began removing the rubble until we reached my father and mother and some of the children, grandchildren, who were stuck under the stones that fell on them from the mosque.” Bilal Salama’s father and mother were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Felesteen News spoke to another witness named Hajj Jihad Jarour whose bulldozer, which is how he made his livelihood, was destroyed by the bombing: “We were sitting in the basement of the house, and suddenly we heard the bombing and the house shook and smoke filled the place. As you can see, everything is gone, the house and the tools. May God compensate us.”

The Palestinian Civil Defense reported on their teams dealing with the evacuation of citizens and the transfer of casualties from the surrounding area. Another local source specified that Ansar Central Ambulance Station evacuated the injured from the bombing.

The mosque was located near Ramzoun al-Ghafri on Al-Jalaa Street.

According to Felesteen News, the minaret at Yarmouk Mosque was silenced for the first time since the mosque was established in 1974. Felesteen News stated that “the bombing affected the area’s water lines and infrastructure” and “many of the houses surrounding the mosque are no longer fit for living”.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.

Due to the scale and urgency of Airwars’ assessment process, all images have been automatically uploaded to each assessment with the graphic filter applied to protect users. We have also included all images identified from the sources, which may also include any imagery of combatants.

The incident occured in the evening.
