According to local sources Suspilne Kharkiv and Rodenko Oleksandr via Facebook, shell fragments from artillery fired at a kindergarten resulted in the death of a teenage boy. Police also reported the death of the young boy and stated that “the total number of casualties is being established”.

All sources alleged Russian responsibility for the strike, with a tweet from @ArtyomShegeda specifying that a “grad” missile was used.

The police, cited by Ukrainska pravda, stated that investigative and operational teams were gathering physical evidence from the sites of all the bombings to further document Russian crimes.

Airwars assessment

Up to eight people were killed and two others were wounded by alleged Russian or Ukrainian airstrikes/shelling of Svobody Street and Gorky Park in Kharkiv on March 14, 2022.

The head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, Oleg Sinegubov, reported on a car of Help Army volunteers: “A 26-year-old boy died from serious wounds and a woman was wounded. The number of casualties is being established. A total of 65 shots were recorded during the day.” Fakty.ua added that the injured woman was treated in the hospital to have shrapnel removed.

Another volunteer with Help Army wrote on her Facebook a memorial for the victims and identified them as brother and sister. The volunteer wrote “It seemed to be an ordinary volunteer day… We wanted to congratulate the volunteers, recorded a video greeting from the Muzbat guys. We managed to do a lot, but there were two parcels left for the soldiers. We are on our way. “Grad”! “Grads”! “Grads!”

Ukrainska Pravda quoted State Emergency Service of Kharkiv Oblast who reported that emergency teams rescued three people from under the rubble and found the bodies of seven dead under the rubble of houses.

Truexa News provided details that at least two people were killed by shelling of their home on Svoboda street, and one person who was in the basement survived. Anatoliy Torianyk, deputy head of the Main Department of Emergency Situations in Kharkiv region added that at the time there was information about up to three other people under the rubble and Nv.ua added that one person was injured in the same incident. These casualties were likely included in the total of (seven bodies) provided by the State Emergency Service.

Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office announced that they were investigating “violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)” related to the two civilians killed by shelling on Svobody Street in Kharkiv.

Focus News reported that Russian forces shelled Gorky Park of Culture and Recreation in Kharkiv, damaging several kiosks, creating craters in the ground, and landing near the roller coaster ride. Oleg Sinegubov described the shelling of central Kharkiv as “The occupants fired two rockets at the central part of Kharkiv in one day. They fired from the Smerch multiple rocket launcher in the area of Gorky Park, Sumskiy Market, and the intersection of Sumskaya and Dynamovskaya.” According to Focus News, Gorky Park is one of the largest entertainment centers in Europe.

Comments.Ua added that Russian airstrikes also struck a four-storey building in the city centre. Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group reported that on the ground floor of the house there were shops and catering establishments, and on the next level people lived.

Deputy head of the Main Department of Emergency Situations also reported that the shelling damaged a gas pipeline and rescue services blocked the gas leak.

While the majority of the sources attributed the airstrikes/shelling to Russian forces, a source which sometimes expresses Russian sympathies, Kharkov Nash, posted on Telegram that “it is quite possible that most of today’s “arrivals” are “internal arrivals” and that the shelling on Gagarin Street in the city center, Pushkinskaya Street, and Gorky Park were similar to Grad or Smerch rockets, and that Ukrainian artillery is concentrated close by. Kharkov Nash also stated that Russians had not hit Kharkiv with Iskanders yet.

This assessment has reference to ACLED code UKR53346.

The local time of the incident is unknown.

Airwars assessment

Five civilians, including two women and a 19 year old boy, were killed and three others were injured in alleged Russian shelling of the village of Zolochiv on March 15, 2022.

Zolochiv village head Viktor Kovalenko told Suspilne News “Unfortunately, we have five dead – a 70-year-old grandmother, a 34-year-old woman, a 19-year-old boy and two men under the age of 40. The projectile hit the house, and all these people lived in the neighborhood and went out to put out the fire. At that time, it flew to the place where they were standing, and the explosion killed them all. Three more men who were standing nearby were injured. They were given first aid. We will send the two victims, who are in serious condition, to the Bohodukhov hospital.”

The Office of the Prosecutor General announced on Facebook that they would be investigating the civilian deaths based on “violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).”

In addition to damage to a home, Zolochiv village head Viktor told Suspilne News that an agricultural enterprise was damaged and shells hit the gardens in the Makarivka micro-district. Airwars assessment

Between two to three civilians were reportedly killed and at least five others, including three rescuers, were injured by alleged Russian shelling of a market on Heroiv Pratsi St in Kharkiv on March 16, 2022.

Suspilne News reported that three people were killed and five people were injured when a fire caused by Russian shelling broke out in the Heroiv Pratsi metro area.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) released a statement that “At 4:20 p.m., the fire on the territory of the market was extinguished on an area of 3,600 square meters. As a result of the shelling, 3 people died and 5 people were injured.” DSNS added that 51 people and nine pieces of equipment were involved in putting out the fire.

Wikipedia News reported that two people were killed and five others were wounded from the shelling of the market.

According to @ICTV_Fakty, in addition to the three killed and five wounded, three rescuers were hospitalized.

The department of administrative services of the Kharkiv City Council was quoted as saying that three projectiles hit the area of Heroiv Pratsi market, causing the pavilions to catch fire. Wikipedia News added that the shelling also caused damage to windows in residential buildings and schools.

The majority of sources attributed the shelling of the market to Russian forces. However, Perviy Kharkovskyi, a Telegram account with a clear pro-Russian stance, blamed Ukrainian forces for starting the fire, stating that “people were standing at the “new post office,” section 6, and could see perfectly well who was shooting” (referring to the Ukrainians).

This assessment has reference to ACLED code UKR53554 and Bellingcat code CIV0405.

The incident occured at 13:52:00 local time.
