Local and press sources said that up to three civilians were killed, including one women and at least one child, and up to two others were injured after an unknown warplane struck a family working in their fields in Uzri village, close to the Tigris river, on the “road to the coast” in Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad, at 3pm. Al Tarmiyah said that an unspecified number of women and children were also injured.

The Coalition later confirmed carrying out a rare targeted strike “near Baghdad” that day, though appears not to have been responsible according to reports.

A parliamentary delegation later visited the village to seek more information on the event. According to officials who spoke with Airwars, the strike was an Iraqi action which mistakenly resulted in the deaths of a woman named as the mother of Mohammed Al Karbuli along with her son Jassam. A second son Hazim was severely injured. The delegation recommended that the family be compensated.

On March 10, 2022 in the CJTF-OIR Civilian Casualty Report, the Coalition reported this incident to be “non-credible”, stating that “After review of all available evidence it was determined that more likely than not civilian casualties did not occur as a result of a Coalition strike.”

Five civilians died and ten others were wounded in an alleged Coalition airstrike near the maternity hospital in al Tabaqa, according to a single source.

The Smart news agency reported: “A local source said that warplanes likely to be the Coalition launched a raid with three missiles targeting a street and a building near the maternity hospital in al Tabaqa city, killing five civilians, including two nurses and wounding more than a ten others, including women and children. The building was also destroyed.”

[France reports carrying out 34 sorties in the last week – and 11 strikes destroying 19 ISIL targets. In Iraq, the six strikes were concentrated in the Mosul region. They targeted mortar positions, combatant groups, a logistics depot and a command center. In Syria, two ground troop support missions were carried out in the Raqqah and Deir Ezzor areas against artillery pieces and an armored vehicle, loaded with an explosive device (SVBIED). Up to four civilians were killed and a similar number injured after a reported Coalition strike targeted an oil well near al Rasafa.

According to the Syrian Mirror “Coalition warplanes targeted Miksar oil well which is north of Rasafa, and killed four people.” Micro Syria reported similar.

Smart News reported that “aircraft likely from the international coalition launched a raid on Miksar oil well north of Rusafa area (about 30 km west of Raqqa), killing three civilians and wounding four others who were taken to hospital.”

[France reports that in the last week it carried out 29 sorties and 9 strikes destroying 12 ISIL targets. In Iraq, all 8 strikes were carried out in support of operations in Mosul. They targeted mortar positions and defensive positions in the city as well as in the outskirts of Badush. In Syria, in the Raqqah region, a Rafale patrol was engaged on a ground support mission to neutralize ISIL fighters leading an attack against the SDF.

Local sources said that an airstrike targeted ISIL members on the Iraq-Syria border, which also resulted in the death of a civilian woman.

Unusually, the incident was attributed to both sides of the border. Geolocation by Airwars volunteer Christiaan Triebert (see map below) has concluded that they are almost certainly the same incident.

On the Iraq side, Al Sanjak village in Al Qa’im province was reported hit. Al Qa’im Al Hadath reported that the shelling had targeted houses belonging to ISIL, that were used as a storage for weapons and suicide belts. It also reported the death of the woman. It did not say who carried out the airstrike. A single other source, a local Sputnik correspondent, reported that “dozens of leaders and elements of Daesh were killed and wounded after the shelling”. It did not report civilian casualties, but blamed the Coalition for the raids.

On the Syrian side, it was also reported that a woman died in an airstrike on the Al Hari border area in the Al Bukamal countryside – though reports were conflicted as to whether Coalition or Iraqi warplanes were to blame. According to the Al Natek Network, “international Coalition raids targeted the village of Al Hari village in the Al Bukamal countryside, leading to the death of one woman and the destruction of a weapons depot in the area.” Alaraby also blamed the Coalition. However, the majority of other sources said that Iraqi forces were responsible. Euphrates Post reported that “Iraqi airplanes destroyed a weapons depot belonging to IS near al Hari border area”. Others reports re-tweeted each other, also attributing the woman’s death to the Iraqi air force. A second report by Euphrates Post said that an Iraqi woman died in the strike.

Local eyewitnesses reported the deaths of 25 civilians following an air or artillery strike on the hermit area of West Mosul.

An unpublished Amnesty International field investigation was shared with Airwars: ““On the street we were staying, in my uncle’s house, three houses were levelled by one attack, around 12pm on 15 March. I don’t know if it was mortars, or artillery, or an airstrike. I think it was artillery, because I heard the “ssssss” sound before it hit. After the attack, 5 families were dead under the rubble – at least 25 people. One of the families was headed by “Abu Amar.” No IS fighters were killed. Our neighbours said that IS fighters ate lunch in one of the house, and they prayed there. Of course the strike came 20 minutes later, when the fighters were already gone. I saw the destroyed houses the next morning, when we ran out of the house. The houses were on our same street, just one house away from ours.”

Local medical sources reportedly claimed that three employees at a Mosul hospital in Shifa neighbourhood were killed when a missile hit the hospital.

Shafaaq reported that “A medical source told Ashqaf News that a mortar landed near the first aid hall in the hospital, killing three medical personnel and damaging the hospital.” Another local blog blamed artillery shelling.

Airwars assessment

A single source, the Smart News Agency, reported that six civilians died and 10 were injured in an alleged Coalition airstrike on the villages of Al Khatuniya and Al Qahtaniya.

According to the Smart News Agency, “A medical source from the hospital of the city of Raqqa said that six people were killed, including three women and a child, and ten others were injured in the air strike. The source said that the shelling targeted the villages of Khatouniya and Al-Kahtaniya (15 km west of Raqqa).”

According to the Smart News Agency, “a local source said that warplanes likely belonging to the Coalition targeted an oil transport vehicle belonging to the Islamic State organization in the village of Ratla (12 km south of Raqqa), which resulted in the burning of the driver and his assistant.”

Alaraby also produced a similar report, blaming the Coalition.
