"Friday 19 May – Tornados struck seven Daesh targets in Mosul, whilst Typhoons bombed a group of extremists east of Raqqah…The following day [May 19th] , Tornados provided further support to the Iraqi ground forces, despite very challenging conditions as a dust storm raged. Again, a mixture of Brimstones and Paveway IVs were used to engage seven Daesh positions within the city, including a sniper team and a mortar, despite the Iraqi forces being extremely close to the targets on occasion. In Syria, Typhoons supported the SDF and bombed a group of terrorists caught in the open a few miles to the east of Raqqah."

Airwars assessment

Up to 12 civilians died in a fresh round of Coalition airstrikes on Al Mayadeen, according to local sources.

Euphrates Post reported that “the warplanes launched five air strikes at approximately 2 am today [May 26th], a time difference of nearly three hours from the first raids that left three martyrs and a number of wounded on the city of Mayadeen.” It said that the raids were distributed “on the vicinity of the roundabout near the party building and Street Forty, the vicinity of the Saraya and the vicinity of the Nuri Said hospital – the same site targeted by the first raids”. Syria News Desk put the death toll at five civilians three of them children, with 22 more injured, adding that strikes were on residential sites.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights “warplanes of the International Coalition renewed their bombing on Al-Mayadin city around 1:30 am Friday”. It put the number killed at 12, including five children and five women.

@YAlsarout2 put the death toll at 14, however – also pointing to the Coalition – said that as many as 14 non-combatants were killed.

@affairsyrian said that 35 died, though it was unclear whether this was on the 26th or across the 25th too.

Aletihadpress reported that in two days of air strikes on Al Mayadeen, 50 civilians died – but according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, this latest round of strikes brought the number killed to 106, of which 42 were children.

Airwars assessment

Up to three civilians including one child died in an alleged Coalition airstrike on Sukariya, according to local media.

Sources said that a Coalition raid hit a middle school on the outskirts of the town. According to Sharqiya Voice, a child was left with “minor injuries”. However, Aghiad_alkheder and @soundandpic – which also blamed the Coalition for the strike – reported that a child died.

Baladi made no mention of a strike on a school, but reported that the Coalition targeted a checkpoint, killing “two people and wounding several others”. It did not say whether the two victims were civilians or not

Free Syria Media Office reported that two members of IS were killed in a Coalition airstrike and a nearby child was also wounded.

According to the Coalition report, “103. June 8, 2017, near Al Tabaqah, Syria, via NGO report: The casualty reported in this allegation was a result of a landmine. The Coalition does not use landmines, therefore this allegation was deemed non-credible.“

The Coalition shared the military coordinates with Airwars: 37SDV5905065690. This corresponds with al Qaryah in Raqqa.

For June 14th-20th, 19 strikes were made by French aircraft in Iraq and Syria. Most of them were carried out during the Battle of Mosul, in support of the Iraqi fighters engaged in the fighting to drive ISIL out of its positions in the North of the Medina. The other strikes were carried out in support of the fighting for the capture of Raqqah, and against flows of arms and fighters in Iraq and Syria.

Sunday 18 June – A Reaper destroyed a car-bomb and a mortar team in Raqqa, while Tornados and Typhoons engaged ten positions in Mosul…A Reaper patrolled over Raqqa on Sunday 18 June. Its crew successfully spotted a Daesh mortar team and provided targeting assistance to a coalition air strike against them. The Reaper’s crew then used Hellfire missiles to destroy a car-bomb and a second mortar team who were spotted in the act of firing at the SDF.

Local sources said that eight civilians were killed as a result of mortar shelling on the market of liberated New Mosul neighbourhood. This happened near the Al-Taibat restaurant and next to the Fathi Al-Ali mosque in New Mosul neighborhood, in the western part of the city. It is presently unclear who was responsible for the shelling, although the Coalition later reported that it targeted two ISIL mortar teams that day.

Sources also spoke of a number of wounded, which was said to be increasing. Urgent Mosul News that staff at the Al-Taibat restaurant were among the injured.

Airwars assessment

Two displaced families, made up of 10 to 13 civilians which included three women and seven children, were reportedly killed and others were injured in alleged airstrikes on two houses in Al Quoriya – though most sources alleged that the Coalition was responsible, one report from Step News Agency, pointed towards Russia.

Sound and Picture reported that ISIL members had previously been living in the two houses targeted by the airstrikes, said to be owned by Suleiman al Aidan, but said that they had left some time ago and that the house was subsequently filled with the displaced families.

Step News Agency said that the two families were displaced from Raqqa and reported that strikes were carried out by an “airliner believed to be Russian”.

Of the 13 sources to report the incident, 10 alleged that the Coalition was responsible.

No further details were available.

On October 27th 2017 the Coalition admitted having killed a civilian in a strike in Al Quoriya. The confirmed strike might relate to this event (CS1084) or be a separate event (CS1085). The Coalition’s report stated: “June 25, 2017, near Al Qurayya, Syria, via self-report. During a Coalition strike that destroyed one ISIS staging location, it was assessed that one civilian was unintentionally killed.”

The Coalition is currently withholding the exact coordinates for this confirmed strike. Airwars is seeking further information from the Coalition.
