In an incident not previously tracked by Airwars, on September 1st 2017 the Coalition said it had concluded an assessment on claims of civilian harm “near Mosul, Iraq” via an NGO report. According to the Coalition report, “March 18, 2017, near Mosul, Iraq, via NGO report:After a review of available information it was assessed that no Coalition strikes were conducted in the geographical area that correspond to the report of civilian casualties. ”

The Coalition shared the location of this assessed strike with Airwars. The location was stated as Nahrawan in West Mosul.

Five civilians were killed and nine injured in Coalition strikes on Raqqa, according to a single source.

According to Smart News, “Several sources told Smart Monday night that a number of civilians and elements of the Islamic State were killed and wounded by an aerial bombardment and by artillery of the International Coalition on the cities of Raqqa and Tabaqa, northern Syria. A medical source from the city of Raqqa reported that five civilians were killed and nine others were wounded by raids carried out by coalition aircraft.”

Airwars assessment

Two sources reported that dozens of civilians were killed and wounded due to airstrikes and artillery shelling in several neighborhoods in West Mosul.

Al Jiser Channel referred to Al Amaq [ISIL press agency] and said 43 died and 35 were injured. Yaqein said dozens died in airstrikes on the neighbourhoods of 17 July, Zanjili and Rigm Hadid (which also faced heavy shelling two days earlier).

Up to nine civilians died in an airstrike on Raqqa, local media said.

According to the Smart News Agency, eight civilians died and 11 were wounded in an alleged Coalition airstrike on Raqqa. A local source told Smart that “the raids targeted the building of the Central Bank near the Bulman garage, south of the city”.

Syrian Mirror put the death toll at nine with ten wounded and also blamed the Coalition.

Local sources reported violent airstrikes on Al-Thawra (Revolution) neighbourhood in the old town area of Mosul city, on Monday 17th of April.

Two victims (see photos below) were named as “Engineer Zaid Hisham Daoud, one of the employees of the Ministry of Industry” who died when a missile hit his home, and Mahmoud Mohamed Mashhadani who also died in Al-Thawra after the bombing.

Mosul News Network spoke of a large number of casualties among citizens. No further details have presently been found.

One child was killed and three others were injured in a suspected mortar strike by an unknown party on their family home.

Amnesty International provided the following field report to Airwars citing an eyewitness: ”On 1 May, I was sitting in the house, which is about 600-700 metres away from al-Haq mosque. There were 16 of us in one house. It was around 11:30am, and we were preparing lunch. The kids were in the front yard. I didn’t see it, but I heard the explosion. Two cars caught fire. Even our food was full of shrapnel. The sides of the house fell, and the outside wall to the courtyard. The mortar fell outside, in the courtyard. There was one IS fighter standing outside the house, but I don’t even think he was the target – it was a random strike.

The following were injured:

XXXX, 8 years old – shrapnel all over body

XXXX, 8 years old – shrapnel in both legs

XXXX, 4 years old – shrapnel in right leg

[I saw all of the injuries – the kids were in the tent.]

Only my son XXXX died. He was 8 years old. [photo of the death certificate shown to researchers]. He died from injuries on the way to the hospital. We were all holding him when he died.”
