Airwars assessment

At least one civilian was killed and and six others, including one to three children and a woman, were injured in alleged Israeli airstrikes on various locations in Latakia in the early morning hours on May 5, 2021.

Images posted by @SAMSyria0 show three different children, a woman, and an elderly man being treated for wounds allegedly sustained during the Israeli strikes. Another tweet reported that according to the General Authority of Masyaf National Hospital, quoting Dr. Maher Younis, 10 injuries were being treated so far, including four serious injuries, from strikes near Deir Shamil in Hama. It is unclear if those injured are civilians or militants.

@SAMSyria0 identified “Lieutenant Sharaf: Hussein Ali Faisal Abeda”, a regime soldier, as being killed in the strikes on Lattakia.

According to Syrian Arab News Agency, “a civilian was martyred in the aggression, and six others, among them a child and his mother were injured, in addition to causing material damages as the Israeli aggression targeted a civilian plastics factory.”

However, Shaam reported that the it was actually a military facility, “activists on social media circulated scenes showing successive fires and explosions emanating from a site that was hit by an air strike in what is believed to be a warehouse of ammunition and weapons belonging to Assad’s forces and the Iranian militias supporting him.”

A tweet from @AsaadHannaa, a journalist for Al Monitor, identified the facility as being “suspected to manufacture drugs of Captagon pills and other drugs in #Latakia; belonging to Badih and Wissam Al-Assad (the family of Bashar Al-Assad)”.

@SAMSyria0 also identified a wood and ceramics warehouse as being struck in the vicinity of al-Raml al-Janoubi neighborhood in the south of Lattakia, in addition to providing the coordinates and referring to the sites struck in Lattakia as being “completely civilian and belonging to civilians”.

Additional details from SANA were that the strikes occurred at about 2:18am and the planes came “from the direction of south west of Lattakia targeting some positions in the coastal region.” @freeehsem added that 35 missiles were used in the bombardment.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the “Israeli airstrikes hit military positions of regime forces and Iranian-backed militias in both countryside of Hama and Latakia in the early hours of Wednesday morning.” In addition, “one civilian was killed and over five others, including a woman and three children, were injured as well as the destruction of a building, but it was not known if it was a warehouse or a workshop, in Ras Shamra and Ras al-Ain in Latakia countryside. However, it is not known if Israeli missiles or shrapnel of the missiles of the regime’s air-defences left these casualties and caused the material damage.”

A post from Nors studies pointed out that “one of the targeted sites is in Ras Shamra, away from the Russian Hmeimim base, where the S-400 systems are located only 20 km away.”

Ynet News reported that according to Syrian television, as a result of the attack, electricity infrastructure in a certain area of the port city of Latakia was damaged, and as a result, the supply of electricity to residents in the area was stopped. Technical teams are working to restore the infrastructure. It was also reported that private homes in the area were also damaged as a result of the attack.

This incident was geolocated by @obretix. The majority of sources attributed the strikes to Israel but the Israeli Defense Forces refused to comment on the strikes.

The incident occured at 02:18:00 local time.

Airwars assessment

At least one man was injured in alleged Israeli strikes on Ain al-Tinah on May 10, 2021. Local sources are conflicted as to whether he is a civilian or militant and one source reported that he later died of his wounds.

According to Step News, “the Israeli army targeted a person near the border fence with the occupied Golan on the outskirts of the town of Ain al-Tina. The person is from the town of Hadar, and he was wounded as a result of being directly targeted by Israeli forces.” However, @WithinSyriaBlog referred to the man wounded as being Druze and added that he is a “native of the Israeli-occupied town of Majdal Shams”.

Shaam News reported that Israeli forces “targeted a house” and the strike resulted in one person being injured. A tweet from @ElmasDean identified him as being “seriously injured” and another source described his condition as “his life is in danger”.

@SAMSyria0 named the injured civilian as Al Sheikh Tahrir Mahmoud. @MosheBerkovitch tweeted on May 19th, nine days later, that he died of his wounds.

Euphrates Post identified the “position of the Assad regime and Iranian militias” as being the target of the airstrikes and that “the Israeli bombing resulted in the injury of a civilian, who was transferred to Quneitra Hospital.”

Other sources also identified the injured man as a civilian. However, a tweet from @WithinSyriaBlog referred to Mr. Mahamoud as being ” a fighter in al-Qunitra’s NDF”, adding that “his brothers, Nazir and Tha’air, were both killed in the war and his late father, Walid Mahmoud, was imprisoned by Israel.”

Times of Israel referred to the location of the strikes as an alleged Hezbollah site and added that Mr. Mahamoud worked for Hezbollah. Carmel and North Portal added that foreign forces, including Hezbollah, hire local recruits to work for them in the area and Nziv.net identified the injured man as someone who “cooperates with Hezbollah mainly on drug distribution and observations of the Israeli border.”

All of the sources that reported on the strike identified Israel as being responsible. The Israel Defense Forces refused to comment on the matter.

Airwars assessment

Up to two civilians were killed and another was injured in alleged Israeli airstrikes on Homs on November 24, 2021. Conflicting reports were given as to whether two of the people killed were civilians, with up to three others being identified as members of the regime forces.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), a regime-controlled media source, reported that two civilians were killed and another civilian was injured, in addition to six soldiers who were injured in alleged Israeli airstrikes at 1:26am. The source added that the Syrian air defenses had shot down most of the missiles.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) gave a conflicting report that “the death toll in the targeting rose to 5, two of the militias loyal to the Lebanese Hezbollah, whose nationality has not yet been known, and 3 members of the regime forces. Both of them were in civilian clothes during the targeting, and it turned out that they were soldiers later on.”

A Facebook post from Free Dier Azour Radio named the three members of the regime forces that were killed: Sultan Qilih, Zine El Abidine Qataz, Ibrahim Karim.

SOHR added that the killings were a result of both the Israeli airstrikes and the remnants of missiles from the “air battle between the regime’s air defenses and the Israeli missiles” and specified that he Israeli targeting caused the death of at least 4 people and the injury of others, two of them were killed in the western suburbs, and two were killed as a result of the fall of the remnants of missiles, without specifying if this occurred in a different location.

AFP quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying that the strikes occurred in an area near three villages in the west of Homs province. A Facebook post from Nors Studies identified the location of one of the strikes as occurring near Kabash Gas Station on Lebanon Road.

Jerusalem Post quoted opposition-affiliated Halab Today TV that “10 members of Hezbollah were injured after a site the movement uses as a military headquarters and to store logistical equipment was targeted in the airstrikes.” The source also quoted Al-Araby Al-Jadeed in reporting that “at least 10 missiles hit positions belonging to Syrian regime forces west of the city of Homs, causing casualties among civilians, Syrian soldiers and Iran-backed militants. One of the sites targeted was located in the Syrian Gas Company, according to the report. The two civilians were reportedly killed by a missile that hit a civilian area near a gas station west of Homs.”

AFP reported that the Israeli military declined to comment on “reports in the foreign media.”

The incident occured at 01:26:00 local time.

Airwars assessment

At least two civilians were killed in alleged Israeli strikes in the vicinity of Damascus on March 7, 2022. In addition, up to four militants were also killed and up to six others were injured.

Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), a Syrian regime-controlled news agency, reported that two civilians were killed by Israeli strikes in the vicinity of Damascus at around 5am, in addition to material losses. SANA added that the regime’s air defenses intercepted most of the missiles and that the source of the missiles was southern Lebanon south of Beirut.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights originally reported that there were no casualties resulting from the Israeli strikes but later revised their reporting to “two members of Iranian-backed militiamen were killed in the Israeli attack, one of whom is from the southern Syrian province of Daraa and was operating under the banner of a local Iranian-backed militia, and the other was not identified whether he is a Syrian or non-Syrian fighter. The Israeli attack also injured six Iranian-backed militiamen.”

A tweet from @HalabTodayTV differentiated between the civilians and militants killed, reporting that “two civilians and 4 members of the regime forces were killed in an Israeli bombing”.

A tweet from SAM Syria identified two of the people killed: Honorable Lieutenant Khaled Ghazi Ghazieh and Honorable Lieutenant Ali Muhammad Al-Nassar, both from Daraa Governorate – the city of al-Sanamayn. @HoranFreeMedia added that Al-Nasser “[worked] within a local militia backed by Iran.”

Euphrares Post quoted the official Iranian agency, Tasnim, which announced the killing of two leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards militia – Colonel Ihsan Karbalapour and Colonel Mortada Saeed. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added that both Colonels died after being transferred to hospitals in Damascus.

Shaam News quoted informed sources that indicated that the day before the strikes, “an Iranian Boeing 747 cargo plane belonging to Fars Qeshm Airlines (the Iranian Revolutionary Guards) made a flight between Tehran and Damascus and stayed at Damascus International Airport for about three hours.” Sout Al Asima added that Iran uses this plane to transport arms and ammunition shipments to Syria.

Military sources told Sout Al Asima that the strikes occurred at a site belonging to the Iranian militias in the vicinity of Damascus International Airport, another Iranian militia site south of the capital which they suspected was a warehouse for storing weapons, and an Iranian outpost near the city of “Al-Qutayfah”. @SAMSyria0 also identified a marble factory in the Al-Salima Industrial Area at the entrance to Dahiyat Al-Assad as a site of the strikes.

The incident occured at approximately 5:00 am local time.

Airwars assessment

On May 13th 2022, five to six people were reported killed, one was reported to be a civilian, and seven to nine were injured, including one child, a young girl, when Israeli missiles hit the Central region of Syria in the vicinity of Al-Suqaidi village, Maysaf city, in the Hama countryside. Al Araby news reported that four of the people were killed were soliders, and one was a civilian.

One source, the BBC, said that seven soliders were wounded but Shaam news said that three Syrian soliders, two civil servants were killed, and two Syrian soldiers were wounded.

Whilst the Syrian air defenses intercepted “most” of the missiles, the ones that were not able to be intercepted and hit Syria caused civilian harm.

One person who was reportedly killed was Assistant Ammar Hussein Al-Jubaili, who was described by @Ali29919223 on Twitter as “one of the heroes of the air defense, who refused to leave his vehicle while responding to the agression.”  The other names, reported by Msyaf news said were “Lieutenant Yazan Mualla Ahmad”, “Lieutenant Ayham Abdul Karim Al-Hussein”, “Ahmed Afif Al-Din Muhammad”, and “Ali Alloush.” It is unclear which name is the civilian who was killed.

Al Araby reported that Israeli forces targeted two sites in the Al-Bireh and Al-Suwaidi areas in Masyaf, and targeted weapons depots for the Syrian regime forces and Iranian-backed militas, as well as military buildings under preparation, about two kilometers from the city.  A local source, @brATWXTvNQyCfdR reported that Israeli forces targeted “shipments of Iranian weapons produced at the Scientific Research Center in Masyaf.”

According to Al Araby, fires were also reported to have broken out on agricultural land.

The official Syrian regime news agency, SANA reported that ‘At 23.20 on Friday evening, the Israeli enemy launched an air agression with bursts of missiles from over the Mediterranean, west of Banias, targeting some points in the Central Region.”

A military source was reported to have said, “our air defenses intercepted the missiles and downed most of them”

@Schikhmousa reported on Twitter that apparently the attack was targeting “Iranian militia points.”  There was reported to be a high intensity bombardment which lasted for about an hour.

DW News reported that Syria accuses Israel of carrying out the second bombing of its kind within a month.

AFP reported that “the Israeli army told AFP they do not comment on reports in the foreign media.”

The Times of Israel reported that “an Israeli sattellite company and intelligence firm published images Sunday it said showed the damage at an underground facility in Syria from airstrikes days earlier that were attributed to Israel.” The Times of Israel also reported that these airstrikes were the “second alleged Israeli strike on [Syria] in days.”

The incident occured at approximately 8:23 pm local time.

Airwars assessment

At least one civilian was injured in alleged Israeli strikes on Damascus International Airport on June 10, 2022.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), a Syrian regime-run source, one civilian was injured and material damage occurred from Israeli missile strikes. SANA added that the Syrian army air defenses downed most of the missiles and that the strikes occurred at 4:20am.

An image posted by @damascusv011 shows the fires that broke out from the airstrikes, adding that all flights in the airport had been suspended. The private Sham Wings airlines said it is diverting all its flights from Damascus to the Aleppo International Airport in the country’s north and an airport employee told Times of Israel “we had to postpone all flights for at least 48 hours and some flights have been rerouted through Aleppo airport.”

@mas2oul1specified that the two runways of the airport were destroyed, the first one destroyed during a previous strike and the second as a result of this incident. @obretix identified both runways as being hit in the airstrikes.

According to @IntelliTimes, the attacks occurred at a time “that would not endanger civilian landings”.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Friday morning Israeli strike hit three arms depots for Iran-backed militiamen inside the airport, adding that the northern runway at the facility was damaged as was the observation tower.

All of the sources attributed the strikes to Israel, with Arabi 21 adding that the missiles came from the occupied Syrian Golan.

The incident occured at 04:20:00 local time.

Airwars assessment

At least two civilians, including a woman, were injured in alleged Israeli strikes on Hamidiya town on July 2, 2022.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), two civilians, including a woman, were injured and material damage was caused when Israeli missiles struck a number of poultry farms near Hamidiya town. A military source told SANA that “at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Israeli enemy carried out an air missile aggression from over the Mediterranean Sea, west of the Lebanese city of Tripoli, targeting several poultry farms in the vicinity of Hamidiya town, south of Tartous.”

SANA provided the name of one of the victims: “Ali Rahmoun, from the village of al-Qubaiba, who suffered a broken leg in the attack, said that the Israeli missiles caused damage to his house and more than three kilometers of agricultural land planted with aborigines, in addition to two water wells.”

@TvIdlib reported that “dead and wounded” were a result of the Israeli airstrikes on “the positions of the Assad militia and the Iranian militias” but did not identify whether the casualties were civilians or militants.

SANA added that the airstrikes caused material damage to the irrigation and electricity networks, in addition to citizens’ private properties. The director of Water Resources of the province, Muhammad Mahrez, told SANA that the aggression destroyed three irrigation channels irrigating approximately 100 hectares, resulting in about 50 million Syrian pounds of damage, and the director of Electricity in the province, Abdel Hamid Mansour, indicated that, due to the aggression, the electrical network suffered great damage, including poles and electricity transmission lines. A citizen named Alaa Ibrahim, from the town of Al-Jamasa, explained that his loss due to the attack is 52 sheep and two cows, in addition to agricultural instruments, which are his only source of livelihood.

@TheSyrianTweet also reported damage to agricultural facilities, including damage to “8 greenhouses with a damage rate of 50-80%, two farms, a cow facility, and a number of farmers’ fields in the area planted with maize and some summer crops”.

A tweet from @SAMSyria0 reported that the sites that were hit by airstrikes “do not have any military character”. However, @AlHadath identified “facilities used by Hezbollah” as being the intended targets and Times of Israel reported that the strikes hit “a weapon transported by sea, possibly using Iranian ships that docked at the port last week” as part of Syria and Iran’s attempt to establish a new air defense system.

All of the sources attributed the strikes to Israel and @DagnyTaggart369 identified “four Israeli Air Force F-16 fighter jets” as being responsible.

The incident occured at approximately 6:30 am local time.

The victims were named as:

Ali Rahmoun
