Airwars assessment

Between one and two civilians were injured in alleged Turkish shelling of the village of Um Al Qura on June 3, 2022.

According to North Press Agency, a displaced person from the village of Afraz was injured when Turkish forces bombed the village of Um Al Qura. The injured man’s house was damaged and the car parked in front of the house was also damaged.

A medical source from Afrin Hospital told North Press Agency that “Younis Mustafa Daoud, 33, was wounded by shrapnel in his back, which led to its stability in the abdomen. He is still undergoing surgery, and his condition is unstable.” Hawar News added that Daoud was later transferred to a hospital in Aleppo city.

Lîlav Ibrahîm posted on Facebook that in addition to Younis Daoud, his son was also injured in the same bombardment. Afrin Network also reported that a father and son were injured, identifying the age of the father to be 45 years old.

The incident occured in the evening.

Airwars assessment

One civilian was killed by a reported Turkish artillery and rocket fire when it struck Mujbayrah village, Tel Tamr in Al Hassakah, Syria, on July 24th 2022. Four to five others, including two women, were injured.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the bombardment resulted in the death of one civilian in Mujbayrah village and the injury of eight others, including a woman and two children, in the area from Abu Rasin (Zarkan) to Tel Tamr countryside. However, the source did not specify whether the injuries occurred in in Tel Tamr or Zarkan district.

North Press Agency provided the name of the victims: Hassan Ibrahim was killed and Farhan Ali, 50 and Wadha Omar, 70, who are from Mujbayrah, Fayez Mahmoud, 19, from Khashmah, and Rajiha Yassen, 65, from Bab al-kheir were wounded. A source in the Tel Tamr Military Council also told North Press Agency that “one of Tawila’s residents got wounded due to the shelling”.

Hawar News reported that one civilian was killed and four others, including two women, were injured when Turkish forces launched a violent bombardment on Tel Tamr.

North Press Agency added that the shelling in the Hassakah by Turkish forces and their affiliates “left the Tel Tamr power transformer station out of service for the 27th time since the beginning of 2022.” The villages in Tel Tamr that were affected by the shelling were “Tawila, Tel Shanan, Umm al-Keif, the vicinity of the Russian Military Base, Tel Juma’, Ghaybish, al-Mujibera, Bab al-Kheir, and al-Khashma” in northern and western countryside of Tel Tamr”.

A 13 year old girl was killed in alleged Turkish shelling of Gharnata village on August 19, 2022.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights specified that the young girl under the age of 18 was injured in Gharnata village and later reported that the girl had died the next day of her injuries. A Facebook post by Lîlav Alî provided her name: Amira Hussein Khalaf, 13 years old.

Hawar News Agency reported that a woman and a child were injured as a result of Turkish forces bombing the villages of the countryside of Al-Shahba canton, including the villages of Karamel, Hassin, Ain Deqina and Baylouniyah, in addition to the center of Tel Rifaat district in al-Shahba canton.

According to Hawar News Agency, both victims of shelling in Al-Shahba (TS551 and TS552) were transferred to Afrin Hospital in the district of Favin for treatment.

.All of the sources that reported on the incident attributed the attack to Turkey, with most referring to the bombing as being shelling.

On September 27th 2022, between two and eight civilians were reportedly injured, including an elderly woman and a young man, when a Russian air strike hit a refugee camp in the Kalbid area, near the Bal al-Hawa border crossing in Syria.

One Syrian Civil Defense volunteer, Hamza Al-Jassem, stated after being at the scene, “it is a difficult feeling that death is chasing you even in the last place.”

Step News reported that the Russian airstrike targeted a military site belonging to a Turkish-backed Syrian opposition faction, which calls itself “Army of God”, near the Syrian-Turkish border. There were reportedly four missiles, and one missile fell into the vicinity of the refugee camp.

Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that shrapnel from the bombardment wounded four civilians on the main road near the base in the area.  It also reported that the attack caused “panic and terror among the internally displaced people, especially students in the camps, as the missile strike was around school hours.”

Three civilians were wounded in an alleged Turkish airstrike on Rajo, local media reported. It should be noted that some sources reported this incident as Jindires, but Airwars spoke with the Kurdish Red Crescent which confirmed that this was a mistake and the location was in fact Rajo.

According to Manbij Military Council, “at 1400 hours on Tuesday, 30 January 2018, an air strike targeted a civilian vehicle in the town of Jenderes. Two men and a woman were injured in the car. According to a medical source from the hospital of Afrin, the Turkish airliner targeted a car parked on a street in Jenderes. The same source confirmed that the injury of the two men led to amputation of each hand while the injury of the woman led to amputation of both of her feet.”

Three civilians, including an unknown number of children, were reported injured as a result an alleged Turkish drone strike on a vehicle on Al-Hizam Al-Ghaby Road, near Al-Saada School in Al-Qamishly city in Al-Hasakah countryside, Syria, on November 6th 2022.

Two to three SDF fighters, including a commander and a driver, were also reportedly killed in this attack.  Hussein Bari reported that one SDF member killed was the “fighter” Kamal Muhammad Ali, possibly also known as “Mitan Shorsch”.

The media center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued this statement: “The Turkish occupation’s attacks against civilians’ places and properties continue, and yesterday, Sunday, November 6, and in thevening hours when a fighter from our forces was spending his vacation in his home and was walking around with two of his civilian comrades, they were targeted by the Turkish occupation army.”

“The car in which our fighter, “Mitan Shorsch” and his two companions, was travelling, was targeted by a drone of the Turkish occupation army, which resulted in the death of our comrade Mitan, and the injury of civilians.”
