According to Palestine Book : “The martyrdom of the elderly Palestinian Alamiya Al-Kamoudi, 71 years old, and the wounding of her brother and his wife (residing in Libya), from Al-Bureij camp in the Gaza Strip, as a result of indiscriminate bombing by Gaddafi forces of citizens’ homes in Al-Zawiya city in Libya.”

Alaa Zaghir and Gaza Youth also reported her death but did not mention additional injuries.

On March March 19th 2011, forces loyal to Gaddafi bombed the town of Misurata with either airstrikes or artillery shelling, which resulted to up to 50 civilians killed and 84 wounded.

Al Bayan reported that 25 people were killed and 70 wounded during the bombing by the Libyan leader’s forces in the city of Misurata, which at that time was controlled by the armed opposition. Protesters and residents in the town of Misrata said forces loyal to Gaddafi bombed the town with heavy weapons. Tariq, a doctor from Misrata who lives in Britain, said. “There is heavy bombing in the town. They cannot send any ambulances. They [locals] believe it is artillery and tank shelling, not airstrikes. It is very worrying.”

The attack began hours after the UN Security Council decided to impose a no-fly zone over Libya and launch military attacks on Gaddafi forces to protect civilians, and before Tripoli announced any cessation of military operations.

According to @abanidrees, “The death toll from Misurata was more than 50 martyrs and 84 wounded as a result of the violent bombardment by the Gaddafi forces, quoting an eyewitness to Al-Jazeera English”

On March 18th, 2011, up to 25 civilians were killed and up to 70 more wounded in shelling in Misurata from Gaddafi forces according to multiple sources.

Al-Jazeera reported that shelling from Gaddafi tanks and artillery, combined with Gaddafi snipers, had killed 25 and possibly more, according to a spokesman from the February 17 Youth.

Another source, Al Arabiya, reported 70 wounded in the bombing. However, this count was not verified by other known sources.

A father was killed and many members of his family injured by Gaddafi forces tank fire in Misurata, according to an Amnesty International investigation.

The Amnesty report noted: “In a separate incident a few hours earlier [on March 17th] in the same area, another family came under fire as they were fleeing Kerzaz in three cars. Mohammed Mosbah Souib, a 61-year-old father of 14, was killed by shrapnel to the head and several members of the family were injured when all three cars came under tank fire. Mohammed’s wife, ‘Aisha, was hit in the back and their seven-month old grandchild was hit in the face and badly injured. The baby’s mother, Hanan, was injured in her arm. In another car, Mohammed’s son, ‘Imad, and his four-year-old niece ‘Aisha both suffered head injuries.

“The surviving members of the family told Amnesty International that they too had come under fire as they were trying to turn around, having become aware that tanks were positioned ahead.”

Jeanie Abdullah tweeted: “The killing of an entire Palestinian family from the Al-Derwai family – the number of family members is 15 – in the bombing of their homes in the Libyan city of Zawiya.”

Other users on Twitter published similar reports.

Pal Today published a news piece titled ‘An entire Palestinian family was killed in the bombing of their home in Libya’: “For about a week, the 48-year-old citizen Jamila Khaldi, who lives in Rafah governorate, has been living in a state of extreme anxiety and insomnia, after communication ceased with her sister, Al-Hajjah, ‘Rasmi’, who is 67 years old, and resides in the city of Zawiya, west of Tripoli, the capital of Libya, with her husband, Muhammad al-Derawi and his family members.

After seeing on TV the scenes of destruction in the city of Zawiya as a result of the clashes between the rebels and Colonel Gaddafi’s forces, the citizen ‘Khalidi’ burst into tears as she pleaded with God to protect her sister, her husband and members of his family, and called on the Palestinian embassy in Libya to search for her sister, her husband, and members of his family and inform them about their fate which has become unknown.”
