According to Al A’amaq Media – linked to Daesh – “A child and his father were killed in a raid by an unmanned American plane on the outskirts of Raqqa city.”

No other sources in the city reported civilian casualties. However Raqqa is Being Slaughtered did note that “An unmanned plane targets a Daesh pickup truck east of the city of Raqqa in Al Mashlab neighbourhood.”

In its July 2017 civilian casualty report, the Coalition said there was not enough evidence showing civilians were killed in the strike: “Mar. 12, 2016, near Raqqah, Syria, via Airwars report: After a review of available information and strike video it was assessed that there is insufficient evidence to find that civilians were harmed in this strike.“

Multiple sources named five civilian victims of an alleged Coalition airstrike on Tal Hussain.

Almost all sources blamed the Coalition for the civilian deaths, although Halab News and the Syrian Human Rights Committee said Russia was responsible. The village was the scene of a major battle for control between rebels and Daesh fighters.

Shaam News reported that an ‘entire family‘ was injured in an alleged Coalition evening airstrike on Al Mayadeen.

No additional details are presently known.

Responding to a request for clarification about possible involvement given declared UK strikes in Deir Ezzor that day, the MoD told Airwars that “after extensive research, we can confirm that there was no UK involvement” in the alleged event.

Four children from one family were killed in an alleged Coalition strike on Raqqa.

According to Shaam News, the dawn strike totally destroyed the home of Ahmed Salem al Amin, killing his four young children. Nine other civilians were also reported wounded. Raqqa is Being Slaughtered named the children as Salem, Fatima, Rimas and Mais.

In what may be the same or a separate incident, Raqaa is Being Slaughtered also reported: “Five civilians from the Ouda family were killed in addition to the injury of Yasser Azouz al Hassan al Hajji, 4 years old, following the targeting by warplanes of their home in al Baddou neighbourhood at dawn today.”

In a detailed description, Syria News Desk reported: “Media opposition activist Mohamed Osman, quoting civilian sources from within Raqqa, told Syria News desk that Coalition aircraft launched five raids on the city, centered on the National Hospital and tal Nai’m roundabout near its center, and Al Wadi street near al Dalla roundabout north of the city center, pointing out that the dead children’s parents were seriously injured in Al Wadi Street, as the injured were taken to a medical point for treatment, while the bombing fully resulted in the destruction of two buildings, and material damage to a large hospital building and other property.” Daesh fighters were also reported killed.

While most sources blamed either the Coalition or unnamed aircraft, the Syrian Network said government shelling was responsible for the children’ deaths. However the Coalition has confirmed strikes in the near vicinity.

According to multiple reports, alleged night time or dawn Coalition strikes on homes in the vicinity of the Technical Institute and the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at the University of Mosul resulted in nearly 20 civilian fatalities.

NRN said many civilian casualties from the brutal strikes came when fragments of the destroyed buildings struck nearby bystanders and cars.

Between two and seven civilians including women and children died – and five were injured – in an alleged Coalition airstrike on the Tel Al Shaeer and Aski Mosul areas in Tal Afar, west of Mosul, according to local sources.

Yaqein reported that the Coalition carried out a strike that “targeted the villages of Tel Al Shaeer and Aski Mosul“. The source added that “the shelling, which lasted more than an hour, killed two people and wounded five others, including women and children who were injured.”

A Tweet by Sonawa1 referred to the deaths of two children following the bombing of Tal Afar.

Aleyatiraq said that women and children “were among the seven victims killed by the bombing of coalition warplanes on the villages of Tel Al Shaeer and Aki Mosul, satellite towns of Tal Afar west of Mosul.“

Given reported British incidents in the area that day, Airwars flagged the incident to the UK’s MoD which said ” we can confirm that there was no UK involvement” in the event. We have asked for additional clarification.

In their August 2020 civilian casualty report, the US-led Coalition assessed reports that they were responsible for civilian harm in this strike as “non-credible”, stating that no Coalition actions were conducted in the geographical area at that time.

As many as 24 civilians were killed in attacks – possibly carried out by both SDF and Coalition – according to local sources.

Raqqa is Being Silently Slaughtered initially reported 7 victims killed “in the international coalition raids and Kurdish militia artillery.” It later released an updated casualty assessment, counting 23 victims as victims of “a massacre committed by the international coalition.” RBSS identified 16.

Local Coordination Committees in Syria reported a lower total in the village of 9 and attributed their deaths to SDF forces. The Syrian Network also reported shelling, describing the incident as a “massacre.” The Syrian Observatory blamed the Coalition and put the final death toll at 20, including 9 women and 2 chidlren. It noted clashes in the area between the SDF and ISIL.It cited an eyewitness: ““We were sitting in our houses in the village of al-Haisha as we used to hear the sounds of the coalition warplanes flying over the town. After a few minutes the warplanes targeted the village with missiles leading to massive explosions, the inhabitants ran with their children into shelters, some of them just left their houses without knowing where to go when the coalition warplanes targeted them again leading to the death of one whole family.”

Step News Agency confirmed a total of 23 civilians killed, but claimed they were victims of both SDF artillery and Coalition aircraft “during the past three days.” Masar Press placed the final toll at 24 killed.

In a statement issued January 2nd 2017 the Coalition stated: “Nov. 8, 2016, near Al Heisha or Ayn Issa, Syria: Insufficient information provided or available to assess the credibility of the reported civilian casualties.”
