Airwars assessment

Between seven and 26 civilians including many women and children were reportedly killed in alleged Turkish airstrikes on Al Bab.

Al Bab 24 posted on Facebook that “seven people were killed following Turkish air and artillery bombardment on Al Bab northeast of Aleppo.”

The ISIS propaganda outlet Al Raed La Ykazeb Ahlahu initially agreed with that reporting.

LCCSY said that 27 civilians in the Aleppo governorate were killed, most of them in Al Bab.

Al Raed La Ykazeb Ahlahu and the Hezbollah outlet Almanar TV both reported 50 civilians dead, most of them women and children in Al Bab “during the last three days” from February 15.

HNN gave the highest death toll at 26 and listed the victims:

Two civilians including a child died and up to 15 more were wounded in an alleged Russian airstrike on a petrol station/oil refinery in Rasim Nayyas village, local media reported.

All4Syria reported: “two civilians were killed and 15 others injured Wednesday in a Russian air strike on the village of Rasim Nayas in the eastern suburb of Idlib.

“‘The Russian airliner launched an air raid on the village of Nayas, targeting a petrol station, which caused the burning of the station and the killing of two civilians – and injury of others with burns,’ said Abdul Razzaq al-Subeeh, a correspondent for All Partners.”

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “two civilians including a child died in suspected Russian warplanes missiles fired on Rasm Nyas town in Idlib governorate eastern suburbs, February 15, 2017.”

Idlib media centre published “photos of the targeting by Russian occupation forces of a refinery in Rasim Nayyas village south of Abdu adh Dhuhur in the Idlib countryside”.

Local sources said that three displaced civilians living in a restaurant were killed and six others were injured after Coalition airstrikes targeted the Mills area at the right side of Mosul.

A journalist told Yaqein: “aircraft of the international coalition bombed a building located in the Mills area at the right side to the city of Mosul, instantly killing three people and wounding six others. He added that the people of the area rushed to the targeted place and pulled the victims from the rubble, and transported the injured to the hospital to receive immediate treatment, and [took] the dead bodies to the forensic medicine department.”

One of the victims was later named by Jalawla Now as a three year old girl called Isra.

An unspecified number of civilians were wounded in up to six alleged Russian airstrikes on Al Yadouda town, according to local media. Sources showed widespread destruction in the town and reported that a hospital had been taken out of service as a result of the raids,

Ara news reported: “Intensive air strikes resulted in the injury of several civilians, including women, and the destruction of the field hospital, which was put out of service. in the town of Yadouda”.

According to All4Syria on February 16th, “six hospitals have been out of service in the past 24 hours as Russian warplanes and helicopters attacked cities and towns of Daraa with more than 60 raids and explosive grenades, raising the number of raids and explosive barrels dropped over the past few days to more than 130″.

The incident occured at approximately 12:00 pm local time.

A single source reported the deaths of two civilian truck drivers in a Coalition airstrike.

According to Smart News “Two people were killed on Wednesday, in raids by international coalition aircraft on the eastern countryside of Raqqa… Sources said that international coalition aircraft targeted two trucks being used to transport oil, loaded with more than 340 barrels, on the road to the town of Karama, east of Raqqa coming from al Omar oil field in Deir Ezzor, which led to burning them, killing a truck driver and his assistant while the second driver survived and the operations to put the fires out are still underway.”

Social media sources reported airstrikes on ten vehicles allegedly attempting to infiltrate Egypt.

Oded Berkowitz reported that the Egyptian Air Force bombed 10 vehicles “carrying weapons and ammunition near the border with Libya.”

An Alwast News described the incident similarly and cited the Egyptian Air Force as saying all 10 vehicles had been destroyed. A military spokesperson confirmed that they had targeted the vehicles as they allegedly tried to cross the border into Egypt.
