Airwars assessment
At least one civilian, a child, was killed and three to five civilians, including three to four women and up to two children, were injured in artillery shelling on Daret Ezza on July 18, 2021.
A tweet from @kwater4syr identified “A child was killed and 4 civilians were wounded by Russian laser artillery shelling”. @anasanas84 tweeted that among the four that were wounded were women and Zaman Al Wasl identified all of those four injured as women. However, @Sy24ria put the toll of wounded at three and added that they were all from the same family while Syrian Civil Defense put the toll of wounded at “3 women and two children”.
A Baladi News correspondent in Aleppo countryside reported that the areas affected by the strikes were “residential neighborhoods in the city of Darat Izza” and that among those injured, “one is in serious condition, who were taken to field hospitals in the area”.
@anasanas84 named the child killed: Musa Mustafa Turkmani, 8 years old. A correspondent for Zaman Al Wasl provided the age of Musa as 6 years old.
At the time of the strikes, the father of the child who was killed was painting the house in preparation for Eid. He helped the Civil Defense rescue “his 2 daughters & wife but not his youngest son Mousa who died under rubble.”
Sources were conflicted as to who was responsible for the strikes. A tweet from @syriapostnew1 attributed the strikes to Russia while Macro Media Center blamed regime forces for artillery shelling.
The incident occured in the morning.
