Airwars assessment
At noon on Monday, August 19, 2024, four civilian men, identified as Abdo (Abu) Zakour, Haider Muhammad (40-54 years old), Youssef Al-Araj (27 years old), and Mustafa Rifaat Sheikho (28 years old) were injured in a double tap drone strike in the village of Bineh in Shirawa, in the Afrin and Shahba cantons in the northern countryside of Aleppo, Syria.
The sources differed in the spelling of the name of the first victim – some reported his name was Abdo Zakour while others – Abu Zakour. Also, local sources were conflicting regarding the age of Haider Muhammad, some indicating his age as 40 years, and others as 45 or 54 years.
The first shelling reportedly hit Abdo Zakour’s car and injured him. Moments later, a group of residents headed towards the strike location to rescue Abdo Zakour, when three of them were injured by a second drone strike. The severity of their injuries has not been reported at the time of writing, but the four injured were transported to Tal Rifaat Hospital for care.
Several news sources such as ANF News and BasNews said that according to hospital records in Tal Rifaat, Abdo Zakour and Haider Muhammad were from the village of Bineh, where the strikes occurred. However, another report by ANF News claimed that Abdo Zakour was from the village of Kafr Naya. Youssef Al-Araj came from the village of Al-Ziyara, and Mustafa Rifaat Sheikho was from the village of Midan Akbas.
ANF News and Basnews shared images of the damaged car and traces of blood on the road. ANF News also shared an image of an injured man lying on a hospital bed.
Where sources identified a responsible belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Turkish military forces.
The incident occured at approximately 12:00 pm local time.
