Airwars assessment
Two Al Qaeda commanders were killed and seven other militants were injured by a Yemeni airstrike “while they were inspecting a checkpoint” in Moudia, Abyan on June 7, 2012. There are currently no known reports of civilian harm.
According to @taizcity, the strikes were carried out by helicopters (but did not attribute them to the US or Yemen). Xinhua attributed the strikes to the Yemeni Air Force.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
Geolocation notes
Reports of the incident mention that the airstrike targeted a checkpoint in the eastern part of the town of Mudiya (مودية), for which the coordinates are: 13.928521, 46.083144. A possible checkpoint can be seen on satellite imagery of February 2013 at these coordinates: 13.929017, 46.087330. Due to limited information and satellite imagery available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.
