Airwars assessment
On Wednesday, December 27th 2023, artillery shelling struck the city of Al-Bab, reportedly injuring two civilians. The shelling took place in the evening and struck vital facilities, including the Education Directorate, a police station, a cultural centre, a postal and shipping centre, and a court. The bombing allegedly originated from areas under joint control of the Syrian Regime Forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
An initial tweet by user @SyriaCivilDefe suggests that two unnamed persons were “slightly injured” by shelling from areas under joint control, however there is no additional confirmation of civilian harm from other sources. Twitter user @anasanas84 indicates that the source of the shelling was from the SDF, but offered no suggestion of civilian harm. There are no civilian deaths currently reported from this incident.
Based on the single source reporting on the civilian harm, the civilian harm has been graded as “weak” until further information comes to light.
