SOUTHWEST ASIA – Between Nov. 10 and Nov. 12, Coalition military forces conducted 39 strikes consisting of 67 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

On Nov. 12 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 10 strikes consisting of 18 engagements against ISIS targets.
• Near Abu Kamal, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS tactical vehicle.

Saturday 11 November – Typhoons bombed three IEDs emplaced alongside roads in northern Iraq…A pair of Typhoons patrolled over northern Iraq on Saturday 11 November. Three improvised explosive devices had been identified, dug into embankments alongside roads around twenty miles north-west of Bayji, and the Typhoons were tasked with the safe destruction of these deadly booby-traps. Each was hit in turn with a Paveway IV.

Thursday 9 November – Tornados destroyed a Daesh vehicle and stockpiled supplies in western Iraq…Royal Air Force aircraft have continued to fly extensive armed reconnaissance patrols across Iraq and Syria to identify remaining Daesh positions and support the Iraqi troops and the Syrian Democratic Forces in their respective ground operations. On Thursday 9 November, two Tornados used a Brimstone missile and two Paveway IVs to destroy a terrorist vehicle and stockpiled supplies in the deserts of western Iraq.

CHAMMAL

SITUATION

En zone irako-syrienne, les combats se concentrent maintenant sur l’axe Abou Kamal / Al Qaim, corridor reliant les parties syriennes et irakiennes de l’Etat islamique restant.

En Syrie : les combats se rapprochent d’Abou Kamal

En Syrie, les combats se rapprochent d’Abou Kamal. Les forces du régime y seraient rentrées tandis que les forces démocratiques syriennes, soutenues par la coalition, progressent plus au Nord, sur la rive Est de l’Euphrate.

En Irak : début de l’offensive dans l’Anbar

En Irak, l’offensive pour chasser Daech de l’Anbar a débuté. Les principales batailles sont attendues à Rawah, Al Qaim et Akashat, les trois dernières villes tenues par Daech.

Les efforts se concentrent actuellement sur la vallée de l’Euphrate avec pour premier objectif la reprise d’Al Qaim.

L’offensive sur Al Qaim a été lancée le 03 novembre et se déroule selon le plan prévu bien que des conditions météorologiques difficiles compliquent les mouvements et l’appréciation de la situation. Les opérations de sécurisation se poursuivent, les forces de sécurité irakiennes subissant des tirs indirects ou de harcèlement de la part des combattants de Daech.

D’une manière générale, la résistance de Daech a été faible comparée aux combats précédents, s’expliquant sans doute par un début de mouvement de dispersion de certains combattants de Daech vers les zones désertiques situées au nord d’Al Qaim.

La TF Wagram de nouveau en appui des forces de sécurité irakiennes dans leur lutte contre Daech

La TF Wagram appuie l’offensive sur Al Qaim. Elle a réalisé 24 missions de tir sur la semaine écoulée.

Activité aérienne

Ces deux dernières semaines, l’activité aérienne s’est concentrée sur l’appui aux forces de sécurité irakiennes dans leur offensive dans la vallée de l’Anbar. Elle a donné lieu à trois frappes.

Sunday 5 November: Two flights of Typhoon FGR4s, armed with Paveway IVs, flew similar missions over eastern Syria. One flight eliminated a mortar team near the border town of Abu Kamal, whilst the second pair of Typhoons successfully conducted four phased attacks against a tunnel complex near Al Mayadin.

Operation OKRA – ADF Airstrikes for the period 20 Oct – 02 Nov 17

Over the period 20 Oct – 02 Nov 17, Air Task Group strike operations focused on supporting Iraqi Security Force operations to clear and secure the Northern Lake Tharthar region and Al Qaim from Daesh forces.

On 24 Oct 17, Australian F/A-18 Hornets supported Iraqi Security Forces during operations in the vicinity of the Northern Lake Tharthar region. The Australian aircraft struck five Daesh defensive positions with guided munitions.

On 27 Oct 17, Australian F/A-18 Hornets supported Iraqi Security Forces during operations in the vicinity of Al Qaim. The Australian aircraft struck a Daesh command and control facility with a guided munition.

Saturday 4 November: two Tornados patrolled the other side of the border, in the far east of Syria. A mortar team was identified north-east of al Mayadin and successfully bombed. The Tornados then used a further Paveway IV to collapse the entrance to a terrorist tunnel nearby.

On Nov. 3, Coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of 15 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of eight engagements against ISIS targets.

• Near Abu Kamal, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit destroyed an ISIS tactical vehicle.
• Near Dayr Az Zawr, three strikes engaged three ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS transport vehicle, an indirect fire weapon, a crew-served machine gun, and two defensive fighting positions.

On Nov. 2, Coalition military forces conducted 13 strikes consisting of 15 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Thursday 2 November: Tornados conducted operations in the same area [Al Qaim], and successfully bombed a building in which a Daesh observation post was stationed, attempting to direct mortar fire against Iraqi ground forces.

On Nov. 1, Coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes consisting of 11 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Additionally, one strike consisting of eight engagements was conducted in Iraq on Oct. 31, 2017. Near Al Qaim, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and damaged 10 ISIS supply routes.

Wednesday 1 November: Royal Air Force Tornado GR4s, based at RAF Akrotiri and supported by a Voyager air refuelling tanker, flew an armed reconnaissance patrol over western Iraq. A coalition surveillance aircraft identified a group of terrorists gathered at a command post some miles to the north-west of Al Qaim, close to the Syrian border. Our aircraft attacked using two Paveway IV guided bombs; one demolished the command post building, whilst the second weapon accounted for several terrorists outside, along with their vehicles.

On Oct. 31, Coalition military forces conducted 13 strikes consisting of 18 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted eight strikes consisting of nine engagements against ISIS targets.

• Near Abu Kamal, one strike destroyed an ISIS training center.

• Near Dayr Az Zawr, seven strikes engaged four ISIS tactical units and destroyed three fighing positions and an ISIS vehicle and suppressed a fighting position.

• In Iraq, near Al Qaim, one strike destroyed 10 ISIS supply routes.

Coalition removes ISIS leaders from battlefield

SOUTHWEST ASIA — Coalition airstrikes in the past two months have killed several senior Daesh leaders and facilitators in Iraq and Syria. The removal of these key terrorists disrupts Daesh’s command and control network, unmanned aerial system, or UAS, research and development, as well as funding of their terrorist activities. The names of the ISIS leaders recently killed:

* Abu Ahmad al Muhajir, a senior military officer involved in procurement and R&D, killed on Sept. 16, 2017 in Mayadin, Syria.

* Hajji Ibrahim, a senior military officer involved in procurement and R&D, killed Sept. 20, 2017 in Mayadin, Syria.

* Bin Ladin Dhu al Fiqar, a senior military commander, killed Sept. 25, 2017 in Mayadin, Syria.

* Shahin, a ground commander, killed on Sept. 26, 2017 in Mayadin, Syria.

* Abu Walid al Shami, a weapons R&D developer, killed Sept. 29, 2017 in Mayadin, Syria.

* Abu Hajir al-Iraqi, a military procurement official involved in R&D, killed Oct. 2, 2017 in Mayadin, Syria.

* Abu Mahmud al Halabi, in ISIS administrative official, was killed Oct. 3, 2017 near Mayadin, Syria.

* Abu Walid al Qamishli, a commander responsible for a network of fighters in Hasakah Province, killed Oct. 3, 2017 near Al Haidin, Syria.

* Abu Taburak, a UAS researcher and developer, killed Oct. 7, 2017 in Al Qaim, Iraq.

* Abu Asia, a UAS facilitator, killed on Oct. 9, 2017 in Abu Kamal, Syria.

* Abu Suhayb, an ISIS leader, was killed Oct. 12, 2017 in Al Qaim, Iraq.

Eliminating these militant leaders and facilitators, directly responsible for command and control, research and development, and planning, degrades ISIS’s ability to conduct attacks on civilian targets in Iraq, Syria, and throughout the region.

U.S. and Coalition forces will continue to strike ISIS leadership in order to disrupt the organization’s ability to plan and attack the U.S. and our interests around the world.

On Oct. 30 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets.

• Near Dayr Az Zawr, two strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units.

On Oct. 30 in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of 10 engagements against ISIS targets.

• Near Al Qaim, four strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS vehicle, a staging site, a mortar firing position, and damaged 13 ISIS supply routes.

Additionally, two strikes consisting of four engagements were conducted in Syria on Oct. 29.

• Near Abu Kamal, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and damaged an ISIS headquarters.

• Near Dayr Az Zawr, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit.

Chammal : la Task Force Wagram, ou l’artillerie française au sein de la Coalition

Déployée en Irak depuis septembre 2016, la Task Force (TF) Wagram a réalisé plus de 1500 missions en appui des forces irakiennes. Forte de près de 200 militaires armant quatre canons Caesar, la TF Wagram complète les moyens du pilier « appui » de l’opération Chammal, en soutenant l’action des troupes irakiennes engagées au sol dans les combats contre Daech. Pleinement intégrée à la Coalition, une coordination est effectuée de façon permanente tout au long de la chaîne de validation d’une demande d’appui.

Tout d’abord, les cibles doivent être identifiées. Pour ce faire, les objectifs sont désignés de deux façons différentes : soit par les forces irakiennes sur le terrain, soit directement par les moyens de la Coalition, avec notamment les missions de renseignement des Rafale ou de l’Atlantique 2 pour les moyens français. Dans les deux cas, les informations arrivent au sein de la TF américaine Falcon. Le capitaine Philippe, officier de liaison entre la TF Wagram et la TF américaine, sélectionne les cibles qui pourraient être traitées par les artilleurs français en fonction des capacités du canon Caesar, de leur emplacement géographique et de l’effet souhaité sur le terrain.

Avant chaque tir, le processus de validation est minutieusement mis en place et vérifié par une autorité de la Coalition, le Target Engagement Autority. Cette vérification comporte plusieurs étapes. Premièrement, il faut être certain de la présence de combattants ou de matériels de Daech. Deuxièmement, il faut s’assurer qu’aucun dommage collatéral ne peut avoir lieu vis-à-vis de la population, ou vis-à-vis des infrastructures telles que des écoles ou des hôpitaux.

Troisièmement, chaque demande de tir doit avoir, ensuite, l’approbation des forces irakiennes. Dernièrement, il faut vérifier que les tirs d’artillerie ne rentrent pas en conflit avec d’éventuels autres éléments comme les mouvements aériens.

Le tir peut finalement avoir lieu sous réserve qu’il respecte les règles d’engagement françaises. Ce contrôle est effectué par le chef de corps ou le chef opérations de la TF Wagram avec l’aide d’un legal adviser, conseiller juridique pour les opérations. Une fois l’aval donné, les ordres de tirs sont transmis au centre opérations du groupement tactique d’artillerie sur les postes avancés, afin de les mettre en œuvre. Pour chacun des tirs d’artillerie française, le choix des obus est déterminant. Une proposition d’emploi est d’abord émise par la Coalition avec la demande d’appui-feux ; les artilleurs français valident ou ajustent cette proposition en fonction de l’estimation des dommages collatéraux, de l’effet tactique recherché sur le terrain, et des caractéristiques propres au canon Caesar.

C’est de jour comme de nuit, ou encore sous une chaleur frôlant parfois les 50°C à l’ombre, que les artilleurs de la TF Wagram mettent en application leurs savoir-faire pour réaliser les missions d’appui-feu au profit des soldats irakiens. Intégrés au sein de la Coalition, artilleurs français et américains vivent ensemble au quotidien.

Lancée depuis le 19 septembre 2014, l’opération Chammal représente la participation française à l’opération Inherent Resolve et mobilise aujourd’hui près de 1 200 militaires. A la demande du gouvernement irakien et en coordination avec les alliés de la France présents dans la région, l’opération Chammal repose sur deux piliers complémentaires : un pilier « formation » au profit d’unités de sécurité nationales irakiennes et un pilier « appui » consistant à soutenir l’action des forces locales engagées au sol contre Daech et à frapper les capacités militaires du groupe terroriste.

Sunday 29 October: Typhoon FGR4s supported the Syrian Democratic Forces south-east of Dayr az Zawr, attacking a terrorist position with a Paveway. In western Iraq, two Tornados conducted simultaneous attacks on a command post and a weapons stockpile, both located some five miles south of Husaybah.

• Near Al Qaim, five strikes engaged four ISIS tactical units and destroyed and ISIS command and control center, an ISIS safe house, two ISIS vehicles, one ISIS-held building, four rockets, and damaged two ISIS supply routes.

• Near Rawah, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle maintenance facility, a VBIED, a tactical vehicle, a transport vehicle and a weapons cache.

• Near Qayyarah, one strike engaged one ISIS tactical unit, resulting in terrain denial.

Additionally, four strikes consisting of 18 engagements were conducted in Iraq and one strike consisting of one engagement was conducted in Syria on Oct. 17.

• Near Al Qaim, Iraq, three strikes [1 Aus? 1 or more British] engaged three ISIS tactical units and destroyed an explosives storage facility, four ISIS-held buildings, one construction vehicle and four storage cylinders. Additionally, eight ISIS supply routes were damaged.

• Near Rawah, Iraq, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS safe house.

• Near Ash Shaddadi, Syria, one strike engaged one ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a VBIED.

Friday 27 October: A further Tornado patrol in the area of Al Qaim identified a terrorist supply lorry; it was destroyed with a Brimstone missile. In the Euphrates valley to the west of Ash Shirwaniyah, a second Tornado flight meanwhile used a pair of Paveway IVs to strike a Daesh-held building, then used another Brimstone to knock out an armed truck.
