Wednesday 11 May – Tornados provided close air support to Iraqi troops engaged in close combat in western Iraq, destroying a terrorist strongpoint…On Wednesday 11 May, Tornados again assisted Iraqi ground forces in the Euphrates valley, when they came up against a heavily defended Daesh building, which was demolished with a Paveway.

IRAK / SYRIE : CHAMMAL

En Irak, la situation militaire reste globalement stable. Daech est sur la défensive et concentre ses moyens sur la région de Mossoul. Les forces irakiennes poursuivent leur avancée dans les vallées du Tigre et de l’Euphrate.

• Dans la vallée du Tigre, les Forces de sécurité irakiennes (FSI) sont toujours engagées dans la prise du verrou de Qayyarah. Elles progressent lentement face à une âpre défense de Daech.
• Dans la vallée de l’Euphrate, la ville de Hit a été reprise par les FSI.
• La réduction de poches de résistance adverses a permis de rétablir la liberté de circulation entre les villes d’Haditha et de Ramadi.
• Dans le même temps les FSI ont lancé l’opération visant à reconquérir la ville de Falloujah.

En Syrie, les frappes restent dirigées contre les unités combattantes, les centres de commandement et les capacités logistiques de Daech. Il s’agit donc de détruire les capacités de fonctionnement du système que représente le groupe terroriste. Les résultats de la coalition sont significatifs Daech n’a plus la liberté de mouvement nécessaire pour reprendre le dessus, ni basculer ses forces entre l’Irak et la Syrie. Cependant, Daech conserve une capacité de résistance. Les forces du groupe terroriste se sont ainsi installées en défense ferme de certains points, comme Fallouja et les abords est de Qayyarah en Irak, ou encore les faubourgs de Deir ez Zor, ou le sud de Shadadi, en Syrie. La situation indique donc que le combat pourrait être encore long. ACTIVITÉS DE LA FORCE CHAMMAL Depuis le 3 mai 2016, la composante aérienne de l’opération Chammal a réalisé 63 sorties dont 54 de bombardement et 9 de recueil de renseignement. Elles ont permis la réalisation de 17 frappes, aboutissant à la destruction de 37 objectifs. Cette semaine la force Chammal a fait porter son effort sur l’appui des troupes au sol Dans la région de Falloujah, le 5 mai, les avions français ont frappé à quatre reprises et en quelques heures des positions de défense de Daech qui bloquaient l’avancée des FSI. Dans le même temps, la France a conduit 2 frappes planifiées :

• le 3 mai, une patrouille de 2 Mirage 2000D a réalisé un raid dans la région de Mossoul contre un poste de commandement militaire de l’organisation terroriste.

RAF Sentry airborne command and control platforms have also been playing their part in the overall direction of the air campaign against Daesh. A typical Sentry mission on 10 May saw it controlling some 40 coalition aircraft operating over Syria and Iraq, including several RAF reconnaissance missions.

Monday 9 May – Tornados and Typhoons struck Daesh targets in western and northern Iraq, including a command post, a tunnel network and mortar and rocket positions…RAF Typhoon FGR4s, armed with Paveway IV guided bombs, conducted successful attacks on Monday 9 May against a group of Daesh extremists hiding in a tunnel network dug into a riverbank north-west of Kirkuk and against two rocket launcher positions north of Mosul.

Other Typhoons, and Tornado GR4s provided close air support to the Iraqi troops operating in the Euphrates valley. The Typhoons struck a mortar position north of the Al Asad airbase, while the Tornados destroyed a terrorist command post situated nearby in a riverside building in the midst of a palm grove.

Chammal : activité intense sur la BAP en Jordanie le 09 mai

Le 09 mai 2016 plusieurs missions ont mobilisé l’ensemble des aéronefs de la base aérienne projetée en Jordanie (BAP), aboutissant à la destruction d’une demi-douzaine d’objectifs. Lors de cette journée les huit Mirage 2000D et l’Atlantique2stationnés sur la BAP ont été engagés dans des missions de bombardement au-dessus de l’Irak.

Tôt dans la matinée une patrouille de Mirage 2000D a frappé au nord-est de Mossoul un groupe de combattants de Daech alors qu’il se ravitaillait en munitions.

Un peu plus tard, accompagnés de deux Rafale et d’un bombardier B52 Stratofortress de l’US Air Force, deux Mirage 2000 et l’Atlantique2 sont intervenus au sud-est de Mossoul en appui de forces au sol, détruisant plusieurs positions de tirs ennemies.

Enfin, dans la soirée, une formation de Mirage 2000D accompagnée de chasseurs américains a détruit un site servant à assembler des véhicules piégés dans les environs de Hawijah, à l’ouest de Kirkouk.

Coordonnées par le Centre des opérations aériennes de la coalition situé à Al Udeïd au Qatar, l’ensemble de ces missions s’inscrivent dans la stratégie d’affaiblissement et de désarticulation de Daech en détruisant systématiquement ses moyens militaires et logistiques.

L’activité intense de cette journée, impliquant l’ensemble des avions stationnés sur la BAP, possible grâce l’investissement permanent des équipes de mécaniciens et d’armuriers, illustre l’engagement quotidien de tous les militaires déployés sur ce site.

Lancée depuis le 19 septembre 2014, l’opération Chammal mobilise actuellement 1000 militaires. Elle vise, à la demande du gouvernement irakien et en coordination avec les alliés de la France présents dans la région, à assurer un soutien aérien en Irak et en Syrie dans la lutte contre le groupe terroriste autoproclamé Daech, en frappant l’organisation terroriste avec ses moyens aériens. Le dispositif complet est actuellement structuré autour de quatorze avions de chasse de l’armée de l’Air (six Rafale, huit Mirage2000D) d’un avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique2de la Marine nationale ainsi que de capacités de renseignement, de commandement, de contrôle (C2) et de ravitaillement. Il comprend également une centaine de militaires projetés à Bagdad et Erbil pour la formation et le conseil des états-majors et unités irakiennes.

De Air Task Force Middle East zette wapens in tijdens diverse missies. In het noorden van Irak, in de provincies Erbil, Ninawah en Kirkuk, hielpen de F-16’s grondtroepen. Daarnaast voerden zij luchtaanvallen uit op vooraf vastgestelde doelen. Deze zogeheten Air Interdiction (AI)-missies waren gericht tegen de logistieke capaciteit van ISIS.

Sunday 8 May – Typhoons bombed rocket launchers and three stockpiles of weaponry south of Fallujah…Typhoons were active south of Fallujah on Sunday 8 May, where a rocket launcher was identified in the open with three known caches of ammunition stored nearby. All four targets were struck with Paveway IV guided bombs and successfully destroyed.

Friday 6 May – Tornados and Typhoons interdicted the movement of ammunition on the Euphrates, as well as striking mortars and heavy machine-guns around Mosul and Fallujah…On Friday 6 May, Daesh terrorists were spotted unloading rockets and mortar projectiles from a number of small boats and a barge on the Euphrates in Anbar province. A Tornado reconnaissance patrol, armed with Brimstone missiles, was first on the scene and prevented the initial load of weapons from being driven away, hitting the terrorists’ truck with a Brimstone while they were still loading it. A Paveway-armed flight of Typhoons then arrived and used its bombs to destroy the weapons on the shore, and sink the barge. The same Typhoon flight also attacked a mortar position south-west of Fallujah. A second Tornado flight destroyed two heavy machine-gun positions on the north bank of the Euphrates, downstream from the recently liberated town of Hit. In northern Iraq, Typhoons struck another mortar, north-west of Mosul.

* Near Mosul, four strikes [1 British] struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed two ISIL assembly areas, two ISIL VBIEDs, and an ISIL vehicle.
* Near Qayyarah, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and an ISIL improvised weapons facility and destroyed two ISIL vehicles, and an ISIL rocket rail.

Thursday 5 May – Tornados struck a terrorist group near Mosul, Typhoons hit a tunnel and a mortar team near Fallujah…On Thursday 5 May Tornados Missions in support of Iraqi and Kurdish operations demolished a terrorist position north-east of Mosul on around Mosul and Fallujah, while Typhoons bombed a tunnel and a mortar south-west of Fallujah.

On May 4, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three strikes using attack and fighter aircraft against ISIL targets. Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 15 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using ground-attack, fighter, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. The following is a summary of the strikes conducted against ISIL since the last press release:

Syria

* Near Mar’a, three strikes struck an ISIL logistics facility, an ISIL vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) facility and an ISIL ammunition storage center.

Iraq

* Near Al Baghdadi, one strike destroyed an ISIL VBIED.

* Near Bayji, one strike destroyed two ISIL tunnel entrances.

* Near Fallujah, six strikes [2 British] struck three separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed four ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL heavy machine gun, an ISIL anti-aircraft artillery system, three ISIL tunnel entrances, an ISIL mortar system, an ISIL VBIED, an ISIL weapons cache, and four ISIL bed down locations.

* Near Kisik, one strike struck a large ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions, two ISIL heavy machine guns, three ISIL mortar positions, and four ISIL assembly areas.

* Near Mosul, two strikes destroyed two ISIL fighting positions, one heavy machine gun, 10 ISIL mortar systems, three ISIL rocket rails, and suppressed an ISIL heavy machine gun position.

* Near Sultan Abdallah, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position, an ISIL heavy machine gun, an ISIL mortar system, an ISIL vehicle, and suppressed an ISIL heavy machine gun position and an ISIL mortar position.

* Near Tal Afar, one strike struck an ISIL weapons facility.

Wednesday 4 May – A Reaper destroyed a truck bomb, whilst Typhoons and Tornados attacked a number of Daesh positions, including heavy weapons and a tunnel entrance, in western and northern Iraq…On Wednesday 4 May, a Reaper identified a truck-bomb, concealed underneath a tarpaulin, next to a road in western Iraq. The crew checked that there were no civilians or friendly forces at immediate risk and used a Hellfire missile to score a direct hit on the vehicle, detonating the explosives safely. South of Fallujah, a pair of Typhoon FGR4s used a Paveway IV guided bomb to destroy a building where a group of extremists, armed with a heavy calibre automatic weapon. In the same area, a Tornado GR4 flight dropped four Paveways on a weapons stockpile, two Daesh-held buildings, and a tunnel entrance. RAF aircraft also supported Kurdish forces in the north of the country, where another Tornado flight bombed a group of Daesh fighters and a mortar team, the latter positioned in a small copse of trees.

On May 3, coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using ground-attack, fighter, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets. * Near Albu Hayat, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

* Near Bashir, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL assembly area and an ISIL vehicle borne improvised device (VBIED).

* Near Bayji, one strike destroyed three ISIL fighting positions.

* Near Mosul, 10 strikes [2 British, 1 French] struck nine separate ISIL tactical units, an ISIL headquarters and destroyed nine ISIL assembly areas, an ISIL heavy machine gun, three ISIL large machine guns, two ISIL weapons caches, four ISIL mortar systems, 17 ISIL vehicles, an ISIL bull dozer, two ISIL-used bridges, two ISIL VBIEDs, and an ISIL fuel truck.

* Near Sinjar, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL assembly area.

* Near Sultan Abdallah, one strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position, an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL heavy machine gun.

Tuesday 3 May – A Reaper and Tornados conducted strikes north of Mosul, while Typhoons destroyed a terrorist vehicle near Fallujah…Tuesday 3 May saw an RAF Reaper remotely piloted aircraft conducting reconnaissance over the village of Batnay, north of Mosul. A truck-bomb was identified inside a compound and struck using a Hellfire missile, resulting in a very large explosion. The Reaper then provided targeting support to a successful strike by coalition fast jets against a group of Daesh fighters and their vehicle. Two Tornados were also tasked to operate over Batnay, and they successfully destroyed a further Daesh vehicle with a direct hit from a Brimstone. In western Iraq, Typhoons provided further close air support to Iraqi forces near Fallujah, striking a mortar team and their vehicle hidden under trees south of the city.

CHAMMAL : POINT DE SITUATION AU LEVANT

En Irak, Daech continue de perdre du terrain. Sur le front Nord, l’organisation terroriste consacre ses moyens à la défense en profondeur de Mossoul. Au Sud, dans la vallée de l’Anbar, Daech est bousculé par les forces irakiennes. La libération de la ville de Hit et la poursuite des opérations de contrôle des villages environnant privent Daech d’un important point clef de la vallée de l’Euphrate.

Cette cité servait de quartier général au groupe terroriste depuis la chute de Ramadi en janvier et permettait le ravitaillement en vivre et munitions de ses combattants dans l’Anbar. En restreignant leur capacité de déplacement et de communication, cette conquête contribue directement au démantèlement de l’organisation terroriste et permet aux forces de sécurité irakiennes de concentrer leurs efforts sur d’autres zones d’action le long de l’Euphrate.

En Syrie, la coalition a maintenu la pression sur le groupe terroriste en poursuivant les frappes dans la profondeur du dispositif. Il s’agit de poursuivre la stratégie d’affaiblissement de Daech, en détruisant systématiquement ses moyens de combat et ses capacités logistiques.

ACTIVITES DE LA FORCE CHAMMAL

DU 27 AVRIL AU 03 MAI 2016

Depuis le 27 avril 2016, la force Chammal a poursuivi ses opérations aériennes contre Daech en réalisant 50 sorties dont 40 de bombardement et 9 de recueil de renseignement. Au total 15 frappes ont détruit 43 objectifs de Daech.

Tout en maintenant son engagement en appui des forces irakiennes engagées au sol, la force Chammal a détruit cette semaine un important site de fabrication d’explosifs et de véhicules suicides, dont la taille a nécessité la réalisation de deux raids consécutifs pour permettre sa mise hors d’état de production.

Au cours de la semaine, 13 frappes d’appui au sol en soutien des FSI ont été réalisées en Irak,en faisant effort sur les secteurs de Hit, Fallujah et Mossoul.

2 frappes planifiées ont été conduites en Irak :

Le 29 avril une patrouille de quatre M2000D et deux patrouilles de deux Rafale ont réalisé un raid dans la région de Al Qaim contre un ancien site industriel transformé en centre de fabrication d’engins explosifs improvisés et de véhicules suicides.

Le 30 avril, le même site [the same site as above], compte tenu de son étendue, a de nouveau été frappé par une patrouille de quatre M2000D et deux patrouilles de deux Rafale.

Le 3 mai une patrouille de 2 Mirage 2000D a réalisé un raid dans la région de Mossoul contre un poste de commandement militaire de l’organisation terroriste.

* Near Mosul, seven strikes [1 British] struck six separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed two ISIL vehicles, three ISIL assembly areas, three ISIL weapons caches, an ISIL mortar system, an ISIL rocket rail, and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

* Near Qayyarah, four strikes [2 British] struck a large ISIL tactical unit and destroyed 19 ISIL rocket rails, an ISIL mortar position, and denied ISIL access to terrain.

* Near Ramadi, one strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position and an ISIL vehicle.

Monday 2 May – Typhoons struck a bunker and an anti-aircraft gun in western Iraq, while Tornados provided close air support to Iraqi forces in the north of the country…Typhoons provided further support to the Iraqi forces near Fallujah on Monday 2 May, striking a machine-gun team in a bunker and a 23mm anti-aircraft gun. In northern Iraq, Tornados used two Paveways to destroy a Daesh-held building and a nearby weapons store north of Mosul, then flew south to the Qayyarah region where Iraqi forces were engaged in a firefight with a group of terrorists manning a fortified position. Despite the close proximity of the friendly forces, very precise strikes with two Paveways and two Brimstones helped destroy the Daesh group.
