RAF aircraft have been on hand to assist the latest Kurdish offensive operation; on Tuesday [January 20th], a Reaper was able to conduct a successful precision attack with a Hellfire missile on a terrorist group.

Early on Wednesday, 21 January, a pair of Tornado GR4s also flew in support of Kurdish troops, a Brimstone missile struck a heavily-armed ISIL truck and a Paveway IV guided bomb was used to target a terrorist observation post. Initial reports indicate both attacks were a success.

20-01-2015 – kl. 14:43 – Missionerne, som de danske fly har deltaget i, har været offensive, og de danske fly har i den forløbne periode deltaget i missioner i områderne omkring Bayiji og Al-Anbar provinsen.

De danske fly har primært fløjet missioner, der kaldes Close Air Support-missioner (CAS), hvor flyene er indsat direkte som luftstøtte til styrker på landjorden. Her vil flyene patruljere over et bestemt område, hvorefter de vil kunne blive indsat af koalitionen, når der er behov for støtte.

Luftstøtten kan også her bestå af flere forskellige opgaver, afhængig af hvad der er behov for. Det kan både dreje sig om overvågningsopgaver og bombninger af mål. På nogle af CAS-missionerne har de danske F-16 fly kastet bomber i forbindelse med kamphandlinger på jorden. Målet for bomberne har været bygninger og fjendtlige styrker.

På de missioner, hvor de danske F-16 ikke har anvendt våben, har de bidraget med overvågning og indhentning af efterretninger. På sådanne overvågningsmissioner er flyene dog altid klar til at anvende våben, hvis der er behov for det.

Reapers continued to provide support to the Iraqi army on Sunday 18 January – in the afternoon a Hellfire was used to strike a heavy machine-gun position that threatened Iraqi soldiers nearby, then during the night a further 3 missiles were used to target a large terrorist group as they began an attack on an Iraqi position.

Tornado GR4s were also active in the early hours of Monday morning [January 19th], flying armed reconnaissance in western Iraq, close to the Syrian border. An armoured personnel carrier was identified near Al Qaim and hit by a Brimstone missile. Continuing their patrol to the north east, the GR4s caught another group of ISIL vehicles attacked with a Paveway IV bomb.

Friday [January 16th] saw another Tornado patrol supporting the Iraqi army in its operations near Bayji. Three positions were identified and were struck simultaneously with Paveways. A fourth Paveway was used shortly afterwards against a further ISIL position near by.

That evening, an RAF Reaper, operating elsewhere in Iraq, identified another group of terrorists who had just attacked an Iraqi unit and conducted 2 successful attacks with Hellfire missiles.

On January 16, while taking part in coalition missions in support of Iraqi security forces ground operations, CF-188 Hornets conducted an airstrike northeast of Mosul and another in the vicinity of Sinjar where ISIL fighting positions were successfully struck by using precision guided munitions.

Cette semaine, la force Chammal a réalisé 21 missions aériennes aux cours desquelles une quinzaine de patrouilles de reconnaissance armée a permis la destruction d’objectifs au sol. A l’issue d’une escale technique planifiée, la frégate anti-aérienne Jean Bart a repris la mer et poursuit sa mission dans le golfe Arabo-Persique.

CHAMMAL : point de situation du 15 janvier 2015

Le vendredi 9 janvier, opérant dans des conditions météorologiques difficiles, une patrouille de reconnaissance armée a détruit deux positions de combat de Daech dans la région de Mossoul, au Nord de l’Irak.

Lors d’une mission de reconnaissance armée le dimanche 11 janvier 2015, deux avions de chasse français sont intervenus contre Daech, guidés par un drone tactique qui suivait des combats au sol. Leur action a permis la neutralisation de combattants dans une zone de combat située au nord de Falloujah.

Le lundi 12 janvier, les chasseurs français sont de nouveau intervenus dans la région de Mossoul afin de neutraliser un poste de combat depuis lequel les combattants de Daech opéraient des tirs de mortier.

Sur le volet maritime, la frégate anti-aérienne Jean Bart a appareillé samedi 10 janvier après une escale de maintenance. Elle poursuit sa mission d’escorte du porte-avions Carl Vinson et de contrôle de l’espace aérien irakien au sein de la Task Force 50.

Lancée le 19 septembre 2014, l’opération Chammal vise, à la demande du gouvernement irakien et en coordination avec les alliés de la France présents dans la région, à assurer un soutien aérien aux forces armées irakiennes dans leur lutte contre le groupe terroriste autoproclamé Daech. Le dispositif est structuré autour de neuf avions Rafale, six avions Mirage 2000D, un ravitailleur C-135 FR, un avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique 2 et la frégate anti-aérienne Jean Bart, intégrée dans le groupe aéronaval américain constitué autour du porte-avions USS Carl Vinson.

On Tuesday 13 January, a pair of Tornado GR4s flew a reconnaissance mission ahead of Kurdish forces as they continued to strengthen security in the area east of Mount Sinjar, from which ISIL – or Da’ish as they are known to the Iraqi and Syrian people they abuse – was driven out in December. The aircraft spotted the terrorists constructing a fortified position; a Paveway IV precision guided bomb successfully destroyed the vehicle they were using.

In the early hours of Tuesday 13 January, an RAF Reaper was once again providing air support to the peshmerga in the north of Iraq when an ISIL vehicle was identified being used to reopen a terrorist communications route previously damaged by an attack. The RPAS hit the vehicle with Hellfire missiles and initial analysis suggests that the vehicle was successfully destroyed.

Missionerne, som de danske fly har deltaget i, har været offensive, og de danske fly har i den forløbne periode deltaget i missioner i områderne omkring Bayji og Al-Anbar-regionen. Målene for bomberne har været fjendtlige styrker.

På de missioner, hvor de danske F-16 ikke har anvendt våben, har de bidraget med overvågning og indhentning af efterretninger. På sådanne overvågningsmissioner er flyene dog altid klar til at anvende våben, hvis der er behov for det.

On 11 January 2015, while taking part in coalition missions in support of Iraqi security forces (ISF) ground operations conducted south of Bayji, two CF-188 Hornets successfully struck an ISIL fighting position using precision guided munitions.

Midden-Oosten

Na 375 missies en meer dan 200 keer de wapens te hebben ingezet, keerde het eerste F-16-detachement uit het Midden-Oosten in Nederland terug. Het F16-detachement is ingezet om de opmars van ISIS tegen te gaan met 6 F-16’s en 250 militairen.

Het nieuwe detachement vloog afgelopen week inmiddels meerdere missies boven verschillende provincies van Irak. Daarbij zetten zij wapens in tegen doelen en strijders van ISIS. In Erbil en Bagdad arriveerden de eerste trainers voor de Iraakse en Koerdische strijdkrachten.
